Objectives To compare the data of newly revised Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Fourth Edition(WAIS-IV) of Chinese version and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale forChildren-Fourth Edition(WISC-IV) of Chinese version in the normal group of16-year-oldstudents.Meanwhile to explore the equivalence from the WISC-IV to WAIS-IV,and applythe equivalence results to the17and18-year-old students as well as the mental retradpatients(MR).Methods76students of16years old were selected and divided into two groups based oncounterbalance to receive the two scales. The comparisons and equivalence of two scaleswere analyzed. At the same time25students of17years old and20students of18years oldalso received the two scales to compare the equivalent WAIS-IV results and the testedWAIS-IV scores.30patients with MR were assessed with the WAIS-IV and the WechslerMemory Scale-Fourth Edition(WMS-IV) of Chinese version. The statistical analysis wasdone by SPSS17.0software. The statistical descriptions of general data and classificationsof test results were expressed by percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results’differences were analyzed by paired t test. The distribution and consistency of test resultswere calculated by chi-square test and kappa value. The correlations were calculated byPearson, and linear regression was used to analyze the numerical relationship between thetwo scales. The equivalent relationships between WAIS-IV and WISC-IV were calculatedby way of linear equivalence.Results1The16-year-old group’s scores of verbal comprehension, working memoryindex points and full scale intelligence quotient in the WAIS-IV were significantly lowerthan the corresponding scores in the WISC-IV(t=-6.33,-2.84and-3.78, P<0.01),and theprocess speed index points were significantly higher than the corresponding scores in theWISC-IV(t=3.75,P<0.01).All the scores of the two scales were significantly correlated(rvalue range of0.55-0.80,P<0.01).2There was no significant differences in distributionof the full scale intelligence quotient from the two scales in the16-year-old group(2=3.082,P>0.05).For the same individual, the evaluation consistency analysis of the fullscale intelligence quotient was medium consistency(kappa=0.54,P<0.01).3Thecomposite scores in the16-year-old group from the two scales were significantly positivecorrelated, especially between the same index scores(r value range of0.63-0.77, P<0.01),the full scale intelligence quotients of the two scales were moderate correlation(r=0.79,P<0.01).Then the linear regression was studied to get the equation of the correspondingcomposite scores of the two scales, and the equations of equivalent WAIS-IV scores fromWISC-IV scores were induced based on the linear equivalent equation.VCI of WAIS- IV=0.67×(VCI of WISC-IV)+28.87,PRI of WAIS-IV=1.02×(PRI of WISC-IV)-4.13,WMI of WAIS-IV=1.12×(WMI of WISC-IV)-15.42,PSI of WAIS-IV=1.01×(PSI ofWISC-IV)+3.90,FSIQ of WAIS-IV=0.88×(FSIQ of WISC-IV)+9.21.The tested andequivalent scores of WAIS-IV were the same(P>0.05), and their correlations were highlysignificant(r=0.63-0.79, P<0.01).4The comparisons of the equivalent WAIS-IV resultsand the tested WAIS-IV scores in the groups of17-18-year-old were not statisticallysignificant.5In MR patients’ group, the results of WAIS-IV were49.37-58.53, the resultsof WMS-IV were57.97-72.70, the equivalent WAIS-IV results and the tested WAIS-IVscores were not statistically significant except for the VCI and WMI(P>0.05). Theequivalent WAIS-IV scores correlated moderately with the WMS-IV scores(r=0.37-0.52,P<0.05),and the WAIS-IV scores correlated with the WMS-IV scores significantly(r=0.38-0.70,P<0.05).Conclusions1The scores of VCI,WMI and FSIQ from WAIS-IV are lower than those inWISC-IV on the overlap16age normal group.2The results of two scales are moderate tohighly correlated and the two scales have the similar intelligence structure. The evaluationof intelligence and indexes differences in the two scales have moderate consistency.3Theequivalent equations from scores of WISC-IV to scores of WAIS-IV is developedpreliminary.4The test scores of PSI in WAIS-IV are higher than the equivalent PSIscores in17-year-old group. The test scores of WMI in WAIS-IV are higher than theequivalent WMI scores in18-year-old group.5In the MR group, the correlation of theequivalent WAIS-IV results and the WMS-IV is moderate and the correlation betweenthem is similar with that between WAIS-IV and WMS-IV.
