Abstract/Summary:
Objective Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that often begins in young adulthood and is currently treated mainly with medication, psychotherapy and physical therapy. Some scholars refer to schizophrenic patients aged 18-35 as young schizophrenics.Several studies at home and abroad have found that long-term hospitalized schizophrenic patients have reduced bone density, which is an important indicator of bone strength and is influenced by a combination of factors;older age, lack of exercise, lack of light, and abnormal hormone levels are all unfavorable factors that lead to reduced bone density;reduced bone density means an increased risk of osteoporosis or even fracture, which will lead to reduced quality of life and increased medical costs for patients The loss of bone mineral density is more severe with age,so reduced bone mineral density has a greater impact in young schizophrenic patients.Several studies have shown that abnormalities in sex hormones, especially lactogen, can affect bone formation.Patients with schizophrenia also tend to have abnormal sex hormone levels, which are closely related to the disease itself and to the use of antipsychotic drugs,so that the use of antipsychotic drugs may also lead to a decrease in bone mineral density. There are many studies on BMD and sex hormones in schizophrenia patients at home and abroad, but most of them involve the association between BMD and lactogen, and basically no studies on the association between BMD and sex hormones in young schizophrenia patients have been seen. This study aims to compare the differences in BMD and sex hormones between young schizophrenia patients with different gender and medication regimens, and to analyze the possible factors affecting BMD,and to preliminarily The present study was conducted to investigate the correlation between BMD and serum sex hormone levels in young schizophrenic patients taking antipsychotic drugs. Methods 63 young patients(18-35 years old)diagnosed with schizophrenia in the inpatient department of Anhui Provincial Mental Health Center during March2021-March 2022 were selected as study subjects.General demographic data(age, sex, height, weight)and disease-related data(duration of illness, medication regimen, bone density values, serum sex hormone index levels)were collected for the study. Results Bone mass was reduced in 27% of young schizophrenic patients;in young SCH patients, serum prolactin levels were negatively correlated with BMD values(P<0.05),follicle stimulating hormone was correlated with BMD values in the single medication group(P<0.05),and other variables such as BMI,age, disease duration and chlorpromazine equivalent dose and serum sex hormones other than serum prolactin were not statistically correlated(P>0.05).In young male SCH patients, serum lactogen was negatively correlated with BMD values in the single-agent group(P<0.05),while other variables such as BMI,age, disease duration and serum sex hormones other than serum lactogen were not statistically correlated with BMD values(P>0.05),and none of the variables were statistically correlated with BMD values in the combined-agent group(P>0.05).In young female SCH patients, serum lactogen was negatively correlated with BMD values(P<0.05),while other variables such as BMI,age, disease duration and chlorpromazine equivalent dose and serum sex hormones other than serum lactogen were not statistically correlated with BMD values(P>0.05).Conclusion BMD was higher in women than in men in young schizophrenic patients, suggesting that there are gender differences in BMD in young schizophrenic patients, and age, disease duration, and BMI did not correlate with BMD.Prolactin levels were closely related to BMD in young schizophrenic patients, and no correlation was found between other sex hormones except prolactin and BMD.
