As one of the important components of the national multi-level healthcare protection system, health insurance is an important area for the insurance industry to serve people’s livelihood.Health insurance in Guangdong Province faces the problem of uneven regional development with significant differences between regions, which may have a huge impact on the health insurance market in Guangdong Province and the insurance market as a whole. Therefore,it is necessary to study the regional differences in the development of health insurance in Guangdong Province and to promote the balanced development of health insurance in various regions.Based on the theory of the regional differences, this paper firstly analyses the current situation of health insurance development in Guangdong Province;secondly,it applies the entropy TOPSIS method to measure the comprehensive score of health insurance development in each prefecture-level city of Guangdong Province and uses the cluster analysis method to classify the insurance regions;secondly,it analyses the evolution of regional differences in health insurance development in Guangdong Province and its development trend based on the Gini coefficient and the Thayer index;finally,it uses the grey Lastly, the correlation analysis method is used to analyze the degree of correlation between each indicator and health insurance development, and based on the results, recommendations are made for the coordinated regional development of health insurance in Guangdong Province. The main findings of this paper are as follows:(1)From the source of regional differences in health insurance development,inter-regional differences are greater than intra-regional differences in each region, and inter-regional differences are the main reason for the overall differences;from the size of regional differences in health insurance development, the differences are greatest in Class IV regions, followed by Class III regions, and smaller in Class I regions and Class II regions;from the evolution trend of regional differences in health insurance(2)According to the results of the grey correlation analysis, the urbanization rate, the number of practicing(assistant)physicians and the number of business entities ranked the top three in terms of correlation with the development of health insurance in each region, and then the per capita disposable income, the number of medical and health institutions, the insurance density, the insurance depth and the health insurance development in each region. The correlation between per capita disposable income, number of healthcare institutions, insurance density and depth of insurance and the development of health insurance in each region is lower than the other indicators. This paper makes recommendations for the development of health insurance in each region. The governments of Class I regions should further promote urbanisation and optimise the allocation of medical resources, while insurance companies should actively develop innovative health insurance products and extend the health insurance industry chain;for Class II regions, governments can develop special manufacturing industries to enhance economic development and increase investment in medical and health resources, while insurance companies should open more branches and increase health insurance publicity to explore the potential of health insurance development The government should develop the industrial economy, promote urbanization, increase investment in education and medical resources, and increase the publicity and education of insurance;insurance companies should sink into the market to develop economical health insurance products and increase the availability of health insurance products. The innovations of this paper are: firstly,it constructs a comprehensive evaluation system of health insurance development level in Guangdong Province from two dimensions: the quality of health insurance development itself and the development environment, which can more comprehensively reflect the development of health insurance;secondly,it uses the comprehensive score of health insurance development as the explanatory variable, and adopts the Gini coefficient and the Thiel index to measure the size, evolution and trend of regional differences, which is an innovative approach to the study of regional differences Secondly, the comprehensive health insurance development score is used as the explanatory variable, and the Gini coefficient and Thiel index are used to measure the size of regional differences, their evolution and their trends.
