Objective:This study intends to compare and observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput and traditional sodium hyaluronate eye drops in treating xerophthalmia, and then check the status of symptoms in the two groups after the patients being treated for 4 weeks,so as to provide evidence for the clinical treatment of dry eye by electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput and expand new ideas for the treatment of dry eye. Methods:This paper uses single-center randomized controlled trial design to randomly divide 72 patients who meet the inclusion criteria into treatment group and control group, with 36 patients(72 eyes)in one group. We recorded the score of symptom before treatment and after the first and second courses of treatment, the ocular surface disease index(COSDI),the first tear break-up time, the average tear break-up time(BUT)and the schirmer I test(SIT),trying to compare the difference of the two treatment methods in clinical effect of treating xerophthalmia.Content:Patients were treated and recruited in the ophthalmology department of Wudi County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and the traditional Chinese medicine department of Xixiaowang Township Hospital,a medical community from December 2021 to September 2022.The treatment group was treated with ordinary acupuncture at both ends of the occipital sideline. The same side would be regarded as a group. The left and right sides of the occipital sideline were clipped with two groups of electroacupuncture instruments and continuous waves respectively. The frequency is 100Hz and current intensity is 1mA,with 25 a round of treatment. The patients in the control group were treated with sodium hyaluronate eye drops with one drop for a time, and five times a day.Two weeks is a course of treatment and the whole treatment needs to have a total of two courses. When the symptoms of patients were successfully enrolled in the groups,we would carry out clinical effect measurement before the start of treatment,on the first day and after completing thefirst and second courses of treatment.Results:1.Comparison of symptomatic efficacy between the two groups. In the control group,36 cases were included,33 cases(66 eyes)were completed, and 3 cases fell off. After the first course of treatment,0 case acquired tangible results,13 cases were effective, and 20 cases were ineffective, with a total effective rate of 39.39%.After the second course of treatment,11 cases acquired tangible results,14 cases were effective, and 8 cases were ineffective, with a tangible result rate of 33.33%,and a total valid rate of 75.76%.36 cases in the experimental group were included, among which 33 cases were completed, and 3 cases fell off. After the first course of treatment,1 case acquired tangible results,18 cases were effective, and 14 cases were ineffective, with a tangible result rate of 3.03%,and a total effective rate of 57.57%.After the second course of treatment,15 cases acquired tangible results,14 cases were effective, and 4 cases were ineffective, with a tangible result rate of 45.45%,and a total effective rate of 87.88%.Based on the statistical analysis, there was no difference between the two groups in the effective rate after the first course of treatment and the second course of treatment.2.Comparison of ocular surface disease index and efficacy index.①Intra-group comparison showed that the COSDI scores of patients in the two groups were significantly reduced after treatment(P<0.01),and the difference was of statistical significance.②After the first course of treatment,intra-group comparison showed that the eye surface disease index of the two groups was P>0.05,and there was no significant difference between the two groups. After the second course of treatment, the eye surface disease index of the two groups was P>0.05,and there was no significant difference between the two groups.3.Comparison of the first tear break-up time.①Intra-group comparison showed that after 2 weeks of treatment and 4 weeks of treatment(P<0.05),both the experimental group and the control group can significantly improve the first first tear break-up time, indicating that both electroacupuncture on the occipital sideline and sodium hyaluronate eye drops can significantly improve the first tear break-up time after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment.②Intra-group comparison showed that there was no significant difference in the first tear break-up time between the two groups after the first course of treatment(P>0.05).After the second course of treatment, the first tear break-up time in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).4.Comparison of average tear break-up time.①Intra-group comparison showed that the experimental group and the control group after the first and second course of treatment are of statistical significance compared with those before treatment(P<0.001),indicating that both the electroacupuncture on the occipital sideline and sodium hyaluronate eye drops can significantly improve the average tear break-up time after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment.②Intra-group comparison showed that the average tear break-up time of the experimental group and the control group after the first course of treatment was P<0.05,which was of statistical significance. The average tear break-up time of the two groups after the second course of treatment was P>0.05,which was of no statistical significance.5.Comparison of tear secretion test.①Intra-group comparison showed that in the experimental group and the group, the tear secretion test after the first and second course of treatment was significantly higher than that before treatment(P<0.05).Both the experimental group and the control group could improve the tear secretion test.②Intra-group comparison showed that there was no significant difference between the control group and the experimental group in the first course of treatment(P>0.05).After the second course of treatment, the data in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:1.Both the electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput and sodium hyaluronate eye drops can significantly improve the ocular surface disease index and efficacy index of patients in the two groups, with no difference between the two groups.2.After four weeks of treatment, the electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput is better than those in the sodium hyaluronate eye drops group in the first tear rupture time, and the improvement of the tear secretion test.3.There was no significant difference in the improvement of the first tear rupture time between electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput and sodium hyaluronate eye drops after 2 weeks of treatment. After treatment for 4 weeks, the electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput is better than that of control group in improving the first tear rupture time. The result shows that the electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput is significantly better than sodium hyaluronate eye drops in improving the average tear rupture time after 2 weeks of treatment, and there is no significant difference between the two groups after 4 weeks of treatment.4.In the treatment of xerophthalmia, both the electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput and sodium hyaluronate eye drops have good efficacy.5.The electroacupuncture with upper-lateral line of occiput has good acceptance and safety, with no serious adverse event, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
