Objective:The clinical efficacy of combining Western medicine with the Ephedra and Phyllanthus Warming Palsy Soup in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with cold dampness and paralysis was investigated by comparing the clinical efficacy of Western medicine alone with that of the proprietary cold paralysis formula. Methods:In this study,we collected 60 patients from the Rheumatology Outpatient Department of Heilongjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, and they met the diagnostic criteria. And we randomly divided them into the western medicine group and the combined group with 30 patients in each group.Western medicine group was given LEF tablets 10mg/time once a day and Losoprofen tablets 60mg/time three times a day.In the group of Ephedra and Phyllanthus Warming Palsy Soup combined with western medicine,Ephedra and Phyllanthus Warming Palsy Soup was given on the basis of western medicine alone. And both of the groups were treated for 1 month. After 1 month,we compared the pre-treatment and after-treatment laboratory parameters,VAS scores and RA activity scores,as well as the TCM syndrome score,to quantify the patients’ pain level and assess the efficacy of the treatment. Finally,we used SPSS 26.0 software to analyse the data. Results:Before the treatment, there was no meaningful difference between the two groups in terms of gender, age, disease duration, laboratory parameters,VAS score,RA activity score and TCM evidence(P>0.05).After the treatment,we found that the laboratory parameters ESR,CRP levels were obviously reduced in these two groups, and the efficacy of the combined group was better than that of the western medicine group,at the same time their significant differences were all statistically(P<0.05).In regard to the RA disease activity score and VAS score,we found that the RA disease activity score and VAS score in both groups were significantly reduced, and the combined group group,s reduction was better than that in the western medicine group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In the TCM evidence scores, there was a lower level of decline in the two groups, with a level of decline higher in the therapy group than that in the western medicine group, and all of the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment, the total effectiveness rate of the two groups was 83.33% in the western medicine group and 93.33% in the combined group, which was better than the western medicine group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there were 2 cases(6.67%)of undesirable events during the process of treatment, and both occurred in the western medicine group, but the difference in safety analysis between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.The Ephedra and Phyllanthus Warming Palsy Soup combined with Western medicine can more successfully reduce the degree of joint pain, decrease the inflammatory response and reduce the activity of the disease in patients with cold-damp paralysis and blockage rheumatoid arthritis.2.The treatment method of combining Western medicine with the Ephedra and Phyllanthus Warming Palsy Soup is significantly better than Western medicine alone in improving the symptoms of cold and damp paralysis and rheumatoid joint obstruction, such as joint flexion and extension problems, morning stiffness, especially cold joints, lack of warmth in the hands and feet, and heaviness of the limbs.
