With the continuous development of society,it has become an inevitable trend to speed up the construction of education, science, technology, and personnel power. The training of high-quality technical personnel is an indispensable part of this trend. Therefore,it is imperative to promote further reform of curriculum teaching, diversify and improve the quality of teaching methods, and enhance the teaching quality of secondary vocational education.Cooperative learning is a teaching method widely used in various academic fields that emphasizes the enhancement of students’ classroom participation and initiative. It helps to cultivate their ability in cooperation, innovation, and problem-solving.This teaching mode conforms to the requirements of vocational education teaching reform and can help students better adapt to future life.Based on this, this paper attempts to apply the cooperative learning teaching mode to the classroom teaching of Horticultural Plant Production Technology in secondary vocational schools, exploring the value of cooperative learning in teaching horticultural plant production technology to students.Horticultural Plant Production Technology is one of the core courses in the Leisure Agriculture Production and Management major offered in secondary vocational schools. It covers plant production technology, pest control, fertilizer management, and sowing technology.Vegetable seed pretreatment is a crucial aspect of this course that directly affects the growth and yield of plants. In this study,we conducted a literature review and collated the research background and status of cooperative learning teaching methods. We defined core concepts and theoretical bases and applied the cooperative learning teaching mode to the core course of Horticultural Plant Production Technology in secondary vocational schools.Preliminary investigations revealed that students’ cognition and learning attitudes towards the course needed improvement.Classroom teaching methods were inadequate, and student participation in class was low.Students’ cooperation consciousness was weak, and their cooperation abilities needed improvement. To address these issues,we selected 48 students from Class 19 of the Leisure Agriculture Production and Management major,Grade 2020,at L Secondary Professional School in Nanjing,as our teaching objects. We designed cooperative learning teaching strategies focused on two areas: “pre-sowing treatment of vegetable seeds” and “quality of vegetable seeds,” and provided a detailed teaching implementation process. In the later stages, data collection and statistical analysis will be conducted through surveys, student interviews, student feedback, and teaching reflections. The aim is to investigate whether the application of cooperative learning in the vocational course “Horticultural Plant Production Technology” can improve student performance, promote teacher mindset transformation, and facilitate the formation of an efficient classroom. The research findings indicate that the application of cooperative learning in the vocational course “Horticultural Plant Production Technology” has a positive impact on students.During the teaching process, students actively engage in cooperative activities, creating a vibrant classroom atmosphere, and the majority of students demonstrate excellent performance.Furthermore, students express approval and fondness for the application of cooperative learning, believing that this teaching approach enhances their interest in learning, academic achievement,hands-on abilities, and expressive skills.Overall, cooperative learning enhances students’ classroom participation, motivation, and interest in learning, while also contributing to the development of their collaboration, communication, and innovation skills, which are essential for their future careers. However, this study has limitations, such as a small sample size limited to one school and one class, necessitating the inclusion of more practices and cases for wider application.Future research could explore the application of cooperative learning in other vocational courses and examine how modern educational technologies can enhance the effectiveness of cooperative learning. In summary, this research provides valuable insights for promoting cooperative learning in vocational education, contributing to the improvement of teaching quality and the cultivation of highly skilled technical talents.By advancing curriculum and instructional reforms to diversify and enhance teaching methods, more technically proficient individuals can be nurtured to meet the demands of social development, thereby making a positive contribution to the construction of an education, science, and talent-strong nation.
