Cornea ulcer as a common disease in feline ophthalmology can lead to varying degrees of visual impairment or even blindness when the corneal epithelium and corneal stroma become defective or detached.Reports on the incidence and treatment of corneal ulcers in cats are relatively scarce. So this study statistically investigated the basic information, clinical symptoms, and treatment of infected cats,to summarize and analyze the incidence and treatment plan of corneal ulcers in cats,in order to provide some scientific basis and reference for the diagnosis and treatment of corneal ulcers in cats. This study was designed to study and analyze the medical history of 102 infected cats diagnosed with corneal ulcers in different regions of Shandong Province from February 2020 to December 2021,including age, breed, neutering status, treatment method and prognosis. We also selected typical clinical cases of corneal ulcers in cats, and recorded and analyzed the treatment methods in detail. The results of the investigation were as follows: 108 cases were collected between February 2020 and December 2021,which included 88 cases with follow-up treatment. The disease was found in cats of all ages, with the maximum number of cases in cats aged <1year,at 35.2%,as followed by the age group of 1-5 years.Persian cats had the highest prevalence of corneal ulcers,at 26.1% of the total number of cases. The incidence rate of unneutered cats was over twice as high as that of de-sexed cats, accounting for 67%.FHV-1infection was the main cause of the disease, with a positive rate of 64.62%.All the treated cases were given mainly pharmacological and pharmacological combined with surgical treatment regimens.Of the 44 cats with shallow corneal ulcers and 17 cats with deep corneal ulcers chose pharmacological treatment, which resulted in a cure rate of 100% and 66.67%,respectively.Of the 13 deep corneal ulcers,10 cases of necrotizing keratitis and 15 cases of corneal perforation, the combination of medication and surgery was chosen.7 of the 13 deep corneal ulcers were treated with a Pedicled conjunctival flap surgery and 6 with a transposition of the corneal flap surgery, with a 100% overall efficiency.Of the 10 cats with necrotizing keratitis, laminotomy and Pedicled conjunctival flap surgery were each performed in 4 cases, and 2 cases were treated with keratoconjunctival transposition, and the corneas were recovered after surgery with a 100% cure rate.Among the 15 eyes with corneal perforation,5 of them underwent removal of the eye due to severe intraocular infection,9 of them underwent surgery with Pedicled conjunctival flap, and 1 underwent artificial cornea transplantation. After surgery, all 15 cats were cured, and the cure rate was 100%.The effectiveness of the Acellular porcine corneal stroma in the treatment of corneal perforation in cats was also documented in detail and analyzed in comparison with the conventional surgical treatment, which proved the good therapeutic effect of APCS in maintaining ocular integrity and vision preservation. In summary,Cornea ulcer in cats is closely related to the age, breed and de-sexing of cats, with cats under 1 year old and not de-sexed more likely to suffer from the disease.Pure medication is only effective for cats with slight disease, but is less effective the more severe the disease is.Surgical treatment should be an early option for cases of necrotizing keratitis and corneal perforation, where APCS is one of the alternatives to surgical techniques with good therapeutic results in terms of maintaining ocular integrity and vision preservation.
