Researches On Flowering,Fruiting And Fruit Characteristics Of ‘Changlin’ Series Camellia Oleifera Varieties

Camellia oleifera Abel.,belong to Camellia,Theaceae,is an important woody oil tree species in southern China.In recent years,‘Changlin’series C.oleifera varieties were widely planted in the northern production region.Therefore,it is an important task to research the performance of these varieties in this region.In this paper,performance of 8 Camellia varieties of‘Changlin’series currently planted in northern production region were investigated in terms of 4 aspects:flowering,fruiting,fruit and seed characteristics and fatty acid content of oil,and the comprehensive evaluation was carried out to provide scientific basis for C.oleifera planting in this region.It would have important theoretical and practical significance.Main results were as follows:(1)Flowering phenology(1)Variety flowering period:in Guangshan County,Henan Province,flowering period of‘Changlin 55’was the earliest with full-bloom period mainly in mid-October;the full-bloom period of‘Changlin 18’,‘Changlin 23’and‘Changlin 53’was mainly in mid to late October;the full-bloom period of‘Changlin 3’,‘Changlin 4’,‘Changlin 27’,and‘Changlin40’was mainly in early to mid November.(2)The flowering synchronization index between each two of the 8 varieties ranged from 0 to 0.89.Among them,the flowering synchronization indexes of 8 pairs were 0,accounting for 28.57%;those with flowering synchronization index 0~0.1,0.1~0.3 and0.3~0.5 were each 3 pairs,and each accounting for 10.71%respectively;the flowering synchronization index of 8 pairs were 0.5~0.8,accounting for 28.57%;and there were 3 pairs with flowering synchronization index higher than 0.8,accounting for 10.71%.For‘Changlin55’,except for the relatively high flowering synchronization index with‘Changlin 18’,those with the other 6 varieties were all very low.For‘Changlin 53’,except for the relatively low flowering synchronization index with‘Changlin 55’,those with the other 6 varieties were all high.The flowering synchronization index of‘Changlin 40’with‘Changlin 3’and‘Changlin 4’with‘Changlin 27’were both higher than 0.8.The synchronization index of‘Changlin 4’with‘Changlin 3’,‘Changlin 27’,‘Changlin 40’and‘Changlin 53’were all relatively high.(2)Fruit and seed charactersIn these 4 experiment plots,the average fresh fruit weight of the 8 varieties was 14.17to 25.85 g,the average seed ratio of fresh fruit was 39.37%to 52.76%,the average kernel ratio of dry seed was 57.30%to 66.38%,and the average oil content of dry kernel was 39.11%to 46.02%in the 4 experimental sites.Among them,‘Changlin 4’,‘Changlin 53’and‘Changlin 18’ranked higher and performed better in terms of fruit and seed character indexes.(3)YieldIn the 4 experimental plots,the average yields of the 8 varieties were 3.43~8.38 kg fruit per tree,1.12~2.19 kg/m~2 fruit per crown area,0.24~0.53 kg oil per tree,and 0.074~0.138kg/m~2oil per crown area.‘Changlin 53’,‘Changlin 23’and‘Changlin 4’ranked higher in the these yield indexes.(4)Fatty acid contentThe average values of oleic acid,linoleic acid,linolenic acid and unsaturated fatty acid contents of the 8 varieties in the 4 experimental sites ranged from 74.98%to 80.49%,8.10%to 13.24%,0.38%to 0.50%and 88.68%to 89.68%,respectively.The oleic acid content of‘Changlin 4’,‘Changlin 18’,‘Changlin 40’and‘Changlin 55’was high,which were all greater than 77.49%.‘Changlin 4’,‘Changlin 18’,‘Changlin 23’,‘Changlin 40’,‘Changlin4’,‘Changlin 18’,‘Changlin 23’,‘Changlin 40’and‘Changlin 53’all had a better unsaturated fatty acid content of more than 89.25%.(5)Comprehensive evaluationThe comprehensive evaluation ranking of the 8‘Changlin’series varieties in the northern production region was:‘Changlin 53’>‘Changlin 23’>‘Changlin 4’>‘Changlin3’>‘Changlin 55’>‘Changlin 18’>‘Changlin 40’>‘Changlin 27’.‘Changlin 53’,‘Changlin 23’and‘Changlin 4’performed well in all experimental sites and could be promoted as priority varieties in northern production region.
