In the context of accelerating urbanization and high-quality social and economic development,urban residents have higher-level requirements for their living environment,so the issue of renewing and optimizing old communities has become the focus of people’s attention.With the support of national policies,some old communities have been timely renewed and constructed,and the overall environmental space quality has been greatly improved,but there are still a large number of traditional old communities with poor environmental space quality,which need further renewal and optimization.This paper takes Chengdu Railway Xincun Community as the research object,combines social network analysis(SNA)to build a network model of community public space nodes and a network model of residents’ activity paths,analyzes the current problems of public space in old communities from two levels: public space structure and residents’ daily activity needs,proposes corresponding strategies for the problems,updates and optimizes old communities,improves old communities The main research results are as follows.The main research results are as follows:(1)Using the public space-public activity research method(PSPL),field research and questionnaire interviews,we quantitatively assessed the spatial environment of typical nodes in the railroad new village community in three aspects: spatial attractiveness,comprehensive spatial quality and site pavement.(2)On the basis of field research data obtained by using the Public Space-Public Activity Research(PSPL)method,the Social Network Analysis(SNA)method was used to organize the data obtained from the field research into a matrix model on the Ucinet and Netdraw platforms to construct the public space and public activity network structure models respectively,based on the overall analysis of the public space network and the residents’ activity path network.Based on the overall analysis of the public space network and residents’ activity path network,we summarized several problems in the community: firstly,the spatial structure is loose and the control of key nodes is weak,which leads to the weak cohesion of the whole spatial network;secondly,the spatial hierarchy of nodes is confusing and the spatial type is single;thirdly,the environmental landscape quality is poor and the infrastructure in the space is simple.(3)Based on the specific problems of the current public space of Chengdu Railway New Village community found by the preliminary field research and model analysis,we propose a strategy to optimize the renewal of the public space of Chengdu Railway New Village community from three aspects of public space structure optimization,function conversion and landscape environment enhancement,in order to improve the quality of the community public space landscape environment and enhance the comfort and satisfaction of residents.(4)The new railroad village community is used as a specific case for updating and optimization.On the basis of preserving the texture of the Railway New Village community,new nodal spaces are added to give clear functional roles,the original nodal spaces are converted to increase the accessibility of each nodal space,and the residents’ utilization of the nodal spaces in the community is improved.It provides an example for the renovation of public space in old communities in Chengdu.
