Innovative Application Of Paper Art In Lightweight Design Of Household Products

People’s demand for home products has changed with the continuous development of the economic level of modern society.After the modernist design trend,the design world has not stopped pursuing the beauty of lightness and simplicity,and this concept of pursuing simplicity has gradually influenced everyone’s concept of life.The designers have been exploring and studying how to ensure the functionality of home products while pursuing simplicity and lightness as a whole.In addition,China’s urbanisation process is absorbing a huge number of people into the cities,and the continuous growth of population and the increasing number of floating people are increasing the cost of living in the cities,and more and more people are choosing to rent apartments to solve the transitional housing problem.The influx of people into the city has created a common set of housing needs,and the intensive design of housing has made the limited practical area of buildings a constraint.In the face of this compact housing,people are placing more and more emphasis on the use of space and the need for portable furniture,and are eager for a lightweight,portable and space-saving household products to emerge.Therefore,this article uses lightweight design as a method of realisation,and explores the lightweight design of products from three aspects: material,structure and technology,combined with paper art techniques as a form of expression,to explore the methods and design practices of lightweight home design that can meet the needs of young people living in rented accommodation.The article first uses the literature research method to analyse the theory and overview of lightweight design for household products;screens a large number of typical design cases,analyses the potential lightweight concept in their household products,and summarises the lightweight design strategies applicable to household products in relation to the target group;in this process,the analysis finds that lightweight design can achieve product weight reduction from three aspects: material,technology and structure,thus indirectly achieving the need for portability and ease of transportation.However,its limitation lies in the lack of consideration for the functions,usage and emotions of the products.Therefore,this paper makes use of paper art design to apply the folding and interpolation techniques in household products to better realize the expression of lightweight household products.This paper summarises the design characteristics of portability,functional conversion,space saving and user participation,and finds folding design methods,modular design methods and disassembled design methods that can meet these characteristics: finally,it analyses and summarises four forms of lightweight design for household products: reducing physical weight,reducing visual weight,improving structure and integrating functions.Two sets of lightweight home product design solutions were also completed based on the research of the youth rental population.Through the theoretical study and design practice of lightweight design for home furnishing products,we explore innovative design methods for home furnishing products that meet the needs of young people living in rented accommodation.
