Abstract/Summary:
Community gardens in this article mainly refer to community public spaces and residents’ own planting spaces that are jointly planted by residents in urban communities or their surroundings.Currently, community gardens are gradually becoming one of the means for urban community construction, but existing public participation mechanisms mostly cannot maintain the longterm sustainable development of community gardens in a self-organized and self-governed manner. Therefore, this study aims to propose a lightweight and replicable "unmanned" management model for community gardens, and initiate public participation through building an online and offline digital platform to achieve smart management of community gardens. In the early stage of the study, based on the research of the theory of deliberative democracy, participatory design theory, social exchange theory under the concept of public participation,as well as the case studies of German family allocation gardens,Japanese citizen gardens,Shanghai Clover organization series of community gardens, and Hangzhou Liangzhu Quanxue Farm, the public participation mechanisms were sorted out and analyzed. In the middle stage of the study, the preliminary experimental model of public participation based on the concept of mutual aid was proposed for residents of different identities in the community, combined with the previous content and service design concept. The model consists of four parts:organizational structure, management system, participation roles, and reward mechanisms. In the later stage, the model was tested and improved at the Liangzhu campus of the China Academy of Art,and the public participation mutual aid model and the public participation level evaluation model were proposed, and an online and offline joint digital platform was built. This study provides ideas and experiences for stimulating the long-term vitality of the community and achieving smart management of community gardens.
