| With the continuous promotion of the rural revitalisation strategy, the balanced development among villages has become one of the important goals for the sustainable development of rural areas.Optimising the development spatial network structure of traditional village clusters is an important means to shorten the development gap between villages and promote rational and synergistic development of rural space.Understanding the correlation characteristics between traditional village units can help to systematically analyse the spatial network structure of village development and propose scientific and reasonable development optimisation strategies, which can serve as a reference for traditional villages in other regions facing the same development dilemma. However, most studies on the spatial network structure have focused on the characteristics and mechanisms of the spatial network of urban agglomerations, but few studies have been conducted on the spatial network structure of traditional villages in rural areas, especially at the watershed scale. Therefore, taking traditional villages in the Fuchun River Basin as an example, this study addresses the lack of integrated layout and effective coordination in the development of traditional villages along the Poetry Road and explores the strength of spatial connection in the development of traditional villages in the Fuchun River Basin and the characteristics of their network structure by means of the gravity model and social network analysis, which mainly include the following three aspects:(1)Through field research on the development profile of traditional villages in the Fuchun River Basin, and on the basis of other relevant policy norms and literature studies,an index system for evaluating the development quality of traditional villages in the Fuchun River Basin was identified.Based on the existing research, two variables, namely the shortest travel time and the quality of village development, are introduced to modify the classical gravity model and construct a spatial connection model for the development of traditional villages in the Fuchun River Basin to quantify the strength of spatial connection between traditional villages. The results found that the spatial connection intensity of traditional village development in the Fuchun River Basin at the present stage is seriously polarized, with obvious non-equilibrium characteristics. On the whole, low and medium intensity ties dominate. The spatial connection intensity and the quality of village development are consistent in spatial distribution, showing obvious county differences and spatial proximity effects;the high-intensity groups are mainly clustered along the Fuchun River at the confluence with the Luzhu River and Dayuan Creek, and in the area of Xinye Village-Shangwufang Village in Jiande City.(2)By means of social network analysis, the network density, network centrality,core-periphery structure, structural holes and co-hesive subgroups are analysed to summarise the characteristics and problems of the spatial network structure of traditional village development in the Fuchun River Basin in terms of overall network characteristics, nodal characteristics and group structure characteristics, respectively. The results found that:(a)The spatial network structure of traditional village development is still in the development stage, and the network connection density is only 0.098.There is a development hierarchy disruption between core villages and peripheral villages.(b)The quality of network nodes needs to be improved.Fewer villages act as intermediaries, and the structural hole advantage and resource control are concentrated in a few core villages.(c)The density of connections within the co-hesive subgroups varies greatly, and there is an obvious tendency of centralization,i.e.the development pattern of subgroup II and subgroup III driving subgroup I and subgroup IV respectively, and the subgroups have not built up a complete transmission path between them, and the synergistic development path is not perfect.(3)On this basis, the principles, priorities and ideas for spatial optimisation of traditional village network structure in the Fuchun River Basin are clarified, and strategies for optimising the spatial network structure of traditional village development in the Fuchun River Basin are proposed at two levels:(a)Cultivating endogenous forces for village development and narrowing the gap between village development.(b)Creating a distinctive development brand layout and building a complementary development system.(c)Clarify the hierarchical planning and functions of village development and link the central villages of the network.(d)Broaden the connection channels and weaken the monopoly position of the core villages. These will respond to the construction requirements of the Poetry Road Cultural Belt in Zhejiang Province, help to effectively integrate and enhance the development of traditional villages within the watershed, and provide reference and ideas for the sustainable development of traditional village clusters in other regions. |
