Based on the current rapid urbanization process, the construction of the physical environment of old industrial communities is overemphasized, but the residents’ intrinsic demand for spatial environment enhancement and the construction of community humanistic landscape are neglected, which leads to the environmental space of old industrial communities failing to meet the increasing and diversified needs of residents. This paper attempts to solve the current problems of environmental space renewal in old industrial communities by creating contextual space from the perspective of contextualization.Contextual space is a space that evokes a sense of belonging and identity through human participation and perception in the space, and communication and interaction with the space.Through the study of contextual spaces in old industrial communities, the connotations and sources of the spirituality of place in old industrial communities are more deeply extracted, and design strategies for contextual spaces in old industrial communities are proposed, thus providing new ideas for the renewal design of old industrial communities.Taking the five-ring community of Xi’an Textile City as a specific research object, this paper studies the way to create the contextual space in old industrial communities from the perspective of contextualization through literature analysis, field research, behavioral observation, and resident interviews.Firstly,we retrieve a large amount of literature through literature citation method, fully interpret and refer to the theoretical research on contextual space and old industrial community renewal by related scholars and the analysis of actual cases, sort out and summarize the basic research on contextual space, the characteristics, components and generation logic of contextual space, and use them as the theoretical basis for the creation of contextual space in old industrial communities.Secondly,we conducted on-site research on the physical elements, behavioral activities, and contextual perceptions of the five-ring community contextual space, separately,to analyze and summarize the current problems. Then,on the basis of the previous analysis structure, specific strategies for the renewal of the contextual space of the Fifth Ring community are summarized. Finally, according to the proposed design strategy, the practice of contextualized design and renewal of the environmental space of the Fifth Ring community is carried out from macro to micro in three dimensions: the establishment of the contextual space system, the specific shaping of the contextual space, and the design of the contextual space elements. It is expected that the study of this paper can contribute some new ideas to the renewal of environmental spaces in old industrial communities in the future,so as to promote the renewal of such spaces in the direction of meeting more diversified needs of residents. |
