General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed in the report of the 20 th National Congress to promote cultural self-confidence and self-improvement,and forge a new glory of socialist culture. We will promote revolutionary culture, inherit the excellent Chinese traditional culture, and meet the growing spiritual and cultural needs of the people. The new Chinese garden landscape incorporates modern design concepts and elements of traditional Chinese culture. The rapid development of the new Chinese garden has been accompanied by problems such as blurred ideology and lack of innovation. The paper selects Chinese spaces in Ming dynasty paintings for study because the Ming dynasty was the pinnacle of achievement and highly distinctive in the art of gardening and painting and calligraphy, and the landscape depicted in Ming dynasty paintings conveyed the aesthetic pursuit and spiritual core of the landscape space. In order for the new Chinese garden to better recover its spiritual identity,it has to be updated in terms of ideology and theory. This paper analyses and compares the Chinese spatial landscape analysis in Ming dynasty paintings and the new Chinese landscape respectively, with the aim of providing ideas for the future creation of the new Chinese garden. This paper first collects paintings about the Chinese space in Ming dynasty paintings and analyses the corresponding landscape composition elements and the emotional atmosphere conveyed;the landscape elements contain: mountains, rocks, grasses, trees, water bodies, furnishings respectively;it elaborates on the landscape elements and the cultural atmosphere created in the new Chinese garden, the landscape elements are slightly different from the above: mountains, rocks, grasses, trees, water bodies, hardscape.Secondly, examples are given to analyse the landscape of the literati space in Ming dynasty paintings, using the landscape elements and spatial relationships of the picture to draw the corresponding planar space layout schematic;again, classic examples of the new Chinese garden landscape are analysed. Finally, combined with the above theoretical analysis,a comparative study of the landscape analysis of the literati space in Ming dynasty paintings and the new Chinese landscape is conducted from four aspects: spiritual core, creation techniques, spatial layout, and emotional experience. This paper analyses the layout and furnishings of literati spaces and landscapes in the context of the literati’s activities,in order to clarify the relationship between literati spaces in Ming dynasty paintings and to understand the spiritual realm and elegant taste of the literati. It further elaborates on the spiritual core of the Chinese space in the New Chinese Landscape and Ming Dynasty paintings in terms of harmony between man and nature and expression of emotion through scenery, and analyses the differences and similarities in the construction techniques in terms of composition, penetration and extension, and scale and proportion;thus making some suggestions for the innovation and transmission of traditional Chinese culture in the New Chinese Landscape. The thesis compares the common design techniques and spiritual core of Ming dynasty painting and new Chinese landscape, looking beyond the discipline of landscape design to the art of painting;finding their common artistic characteristics and analysing their individual features. It provides a new perspective for the theoretical study of new Chinese landscape design and further provides a level of practical creation of new Chinese landscapes.
