Study On The Influence Of Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway On Industrial Structure Upgrading Of Cities Along The Line

As an important engine of economic growth,transportation infrastructure has injected strong impetus into regional economic development.Among many transportation infrastructures,high-speed rail greatly satisfies people’s daily needs by virtue of its fast speed and strong punctuality.The emergence of high-speed rail weakens the restriction of space distance on people,saves people’s travel time cost,accelerates the inter-regional personnel exchanges and factor flow,promotes the spread of advanced technology and knowledge,and causes the change of regional industrial structure.Therefore,it is very important to accurately understand the effect of high-speed railway on regional economic development and industrial structure.Based on the panel data of 46 cities along the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed Railway from 2006 to 2019,this paper builds a multi-period difference-in-differences model to study the impact of the opening of the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed Railway on the upgrading of the industrial structure of cities along the railway from the perspectives of industrial structure upgrading,city location category and city size category.Finally,the empirical results are as follows:(1)On the whole,the opening of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway can significantly promote the upgrading of industrial structure in cities along the line.(2)The opening of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway has different effects on the upgrading of industrial structure of cities in different regions along the line.For the cities in the eastern region,the opening of high-speed railway can significantly promote the upgrading of industrial structure,while for the cities in the central and western regions,the opening of high-speed railway has no significant effect on the upgrading of industrial structure.(3)After classifying cities by population,it is found that the opening of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway only significantly promoted the upgrading of industrial structure of medium-sized cities along the line,but did not significantly improve the level of industrial structure of big cities and small cities.(4)Finally,in the mechanism test of the influence of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway on the upgrading of industrial structure of cities along the line,it is found that the opening of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway can promote the upgrading of urban industrial structure by improving the level of capital flow and talent accumulation.Therefore the paper puts forward: Our country should strengthen the construction of high-speed railway and other transportation infrastructure.Improve the distribution of high-speed railway network in central and western regions and small cities.Formulate policies to encourage rational flow of factors between regions.
