With the exacerbation of China’s aging population and the emergence of upper limb dysfunction caused by diseases such as stroke,the number of elderly patients with upper limb functional disorders will gradually increase,which will bring enormous pressure on elderly patients and society for rehabilitation and medical care.The emergence of upper limb rehabilitation products can effectively alleviate the contradiction between the increasing demand for upper limb rehabilitation in elderly patients,high rehabilitation costs,and insufficient rehabilitation resources.However,due to the decline in cognitive ability of elderly patients,there is a significant cognitive load generated during the use of upper limb rehabilitation products,which hinders the progress of rehabilitation training.It is necessary to solve the cognitive load problem generated by elderly patients during this process.From the perspective of cognitive load theory,research is conducted on the design of upper limb rehabilitation products for elderly patients,aiming to solve the problem of significant cognitive load generated during the rehabilitation training process of elderly patients using upper limb rehabilitation products,and thereby improve the user experience.Firstly,conduct research on the theory of cognitive load and relevant literature on upper limb rehabilitation products.From the perspective of cognitive load,construct a product design process based on cognitive load to guide subsequent design research.Secondly,conduct product positioning and construct a user role model through relevant product research and user research;Identify typical tasks based on the entire process of upper limb rehabilitation training conducted by users and analyze them through disassembly;By combining Bloom’s cognitive domain classification model and Harrow’s psychomotor domain classification model through expert focus groups,cognitive tasks are described and classified at unobservable and observable levels,respectively;Obtain cognitive tasks that generate high or higher levels of cognitive load through experiments and user and expert questionnaire evaluations.Next,analyze the cognitive load issues that generate higher or higher levels of cognitive load and propose corresponding design strategies.Based on the design strategy guidance,complete the physical and interactive prototype design of elderly upper limb rehabilitation products.Finally,based on the above research results,target users and design experts are invited to participate in the experiment and evaluate the cognitive load generated by completing the same cognitive task through the design scheme to verify the effectiveness of the design scheme.Applying cognitive load theory to the design and research of elderly upper limb rehabilitation products can reduce the difficulty of using upper limb rehabilitation products for patients,reduce the cognitive load generated during the rehabilitation process,and enhance the overall experience throughout the process;For rehabilitation doctors,using household upper limb rehabilitation products to assist patients in completing rehabilitation training greatly alleviates the pressure of rehabilitation treatment for doctors.Exploring the design and research of upper limb rehabilitation products from a new perspective provides certain reference and reference for future elderly upper limb rehabilitation products and other rehabilitation medical equipment.
