The Protection And Renewal Of Historical Cultural Landscape

The 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China stated that we should intensify efforts to protect cultural relics and cultural heritage,strengthen the protection and inheritance of historical and cultural heritage in urban and rural construction,and effectively build and utilize national cultural parks.” Historical and cultural landscapes are the joint works of nature and mankind.The protection and renewal of the historical and cultural landscape is an important supplement to the overall planning and design of cities.While carrying out the protection and renewal of the historical and cultural landscape,effective suggestions should be provided for key national cultural relics protection units,so as to effectively protect the heritage and its surrounding environment.By focusing on the characteristics,cultural background,historical context,and current needs of historical and cultural environments,it is important to enhance their value,function and charm.Comprehensive research on the theory and legal regulations related to the protection and renewal of historical and cultural landscapes should be carried out.Based on the analysis and research of two successful cases,the Three Quarters and Seven Lanes in China and the Chinatown in Singapore,a set of design strategies and principles applicable to the current planning and design of historical and cultural landscapes in China should be explored and summarized.In the case of the landscape design study of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard,the design strategies and principles were applied to refine the Jin Merchants culture and courtyard culture and create a unique cultural landscape while protecting its historical appearance.In addition,considering the overall development goals of the city of Jincheng,Shanxi Province,the historical appearance and spatial texture of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard were also protected,improving the living environment and quality of local residents.This increased the cultural and economic value of the historical and cultural landscape,enriching the lives of local residents and enhancing their sense of belonging,cultural confidence,and identity,and consequently promoting ancient city charm and image of Jincheng,Shanxi.Furthermore,ecological environment creation and original environment restoration should be applied to shape the natural landscape of the Qiao’s Grand Courtyard,organically combining culture and nature,allowing them to penetrate each other,finally creating a cultural organism with unique features of Northern residential areas.The Qiao’s Grand Courtyard can become a calling card for Jincheng City,and protection of its cultural wealth can be achieved through promotion.Practical experience can be summarized to improve the theoretical system of the protection and renewal of historical and cultural landscapes,promote the integrated development of historical and cultural landscapes with modern cities,and enhance people’s identity and emotional connection to historical culture.
