China’s city god belief culture has a long history.As a material carrier,the Chenghuang Temple architecture interprets the inheritance,continuation and development of the city god belief culture.The decorative art language of the Chenghuang Temple building is extremely rich,which is the crystallization of Chinese traditional culture and art aesthetics,and the reflection of the spirit of ancient Chinese.Whether from the perspective of artistic features or cultural images,the research on the architectural decoration art of Chenghuang Temple has important academic significance and social value.As the highest regulated ancestral temple among the existing Chenghuang Temple buildings in Shanxi Province,it is also a large and well preserved ancient building group among the existing government regulated Chenghuang Temple buildings in China.The Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture is an excellent resource of Chinese civilization that cannot be regenerated and replaced.Its architectural decoration art is a joint presentation of the integration and infiltration of the traditional city god belief culture and folk spirit in Shangdang area,and is the functional Excellent expression of aesthetics and folklore.This paper takes the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture as the research object,and its architectural decoration art as the research content.Following the principle of combining theoretical research with practical investigation,we collected and sorted out the relevant literature on the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture and its architectural decoration art research,and conducted many field visits and investigations.On the basis of these previous studies,starting from the background of the development of the Chenghuang Temple and the evolution of the City God culture,this paper analyzes and discusses the origin and development of the City God belief,the function of the City God God and its impact on the architectural decoration art of the Chenghuang Temple,and expounds the development,current situation and overall pattern of the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture.Then it focuses on the glazed art,wood carving art,stone carving art,decorative art made of gypsum and raw ginger stone,and couplet decorative art of the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture.In order to fully tap the architectural decorative art of the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture,which is the representative of the Chenghuang Temple in Shangdang District,it is also compared with the architectural decorative art of the Chenghuang Temple in Yuci,which is the representative of the Chenghuang Temple in Jinzhong District,Shanxi Province,This can reveal the special charm of the architectural decoration art of the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture.Finally,based on the perspective of cultural images and folk concepts,this paper deeply discusses and interprets the cultural connotation contained in the architectural decoration theme of the Chenghuang Temple in Lu’an Prefecture,so that the research of this paper does not only stay in the analysis of the appearance of the decorative art of the research object,but also goes deeper into the spiritual level of these appearances.
