| The old urban areas are a unique spatial memory for cities, which play a vital role in the development of cities. However, with the transformation of Chinese cities from "Incremental Development" to " Inventory Optimization ",composite factors in social, economic and cultural aspects have led to the structural decline in old urban areas, and thus resulting in problems such as large-scale demolition and construction and loss of vitality. Therefore, the renewal, improvement and utilization of old urban areas tend to become the key work of city construction.Micro-spaces manifest the culture of cities and the vitality of public spaces, and they are the necessary carrier of residents’ daily life and social activities. However, large urban parks, greenbelts and squares have gradually become the core of space shaping, without attention to citizens’ needs for the most basic activities, which leads to problems like the imbalance of spatial scales. Therefore, under the background of advocating small and progressive increments and urban renewal,it is of great practical significance to fully tap the utilizable value of urban micro-spaces,appropriately transform and utilize them, and shape distinctive urban public spaces. This paper researches on urban micro-spaces from the perspective of Urban Catalyst Theory, and puts forward strategies for the transformation of micro-spaces.Specifically speaking, this paper first explores and summarizes research findings of urban micro-spaces and UCT,and the framework of this paper is introduced in this part, too.Secondly, the paper analyzes the three kinds of plane forms, namely points, lines, and surfaces, and then it explores the characteristics, problems and practical cases of micro-spaces.After that, according to the UCT,the function forms, carriers and catalyst effects after the implantation, activation and coupling of catalyst element and micro-space are analyzed. Finally, the paper puts forward principles of and strategies for urban micro-space reconstruction, and takes the parcel in the south of Luoyang Road,Nanchang city as an example to effectively put UCT into practice,so as to provide ideas and references for similar micro-space reconstruction and utilization in old urban areas. |
