Research On The Expansion Of Traditional Mortise And Tenon Elements In Product Design

The mortise is the main connecting component of Chinese traditional architecture and furniture,and it is the national memory earlier than the Chinese characters.After thousands of years,the tenon-mortise structure is not only a non-material cultural heritage-the wood structure creation skills,but also a treasure of Chinese traditional crafts.The traditional mortise is not only famous for its excellent structure,but also for its artisanal spirit and Chinese philosophy of creation.Following the development and evolution of traditional tenon and mortise,this paper studies its structure characteristics horizontally,and applies the elements of tenon and mortise to product design with modern design ideas.This paper explores and studies from four aspects: extracting shape,changing material,innovating structure and expanding cultural semantics,so as to make traditional mortise elements more widely developed and applied in product design.Following the fine and meticulous structure of the mortise itself,the design expression of cultural semantics is extended to a deeper level,not only in the innovative design application of surface shape,but also in the thousands of years of cultural history behind the traditional mortise elements.Based on research and practice,this paper deconstructs and explores the traditional mortise elements,and finds those wisdom and deposits that can help solve the problems of contemporary product design,which are used from the past to the present,breaks the limitations of the application scope of the traditional mortise elements,expands the design field to electrical products and other directions,so as to adapt to the design and production mode of modern products,and revitalize the traditional mortise.Through the research of this topic,the author combines modern materials in the design practice,highlights the decorative and cultural characteristics of the tenon and mortise,and innovates the tenon and mortise.While continuing the tradition,the mortise and tenon elements should be adapted to the modern aesthetics,techniques and lifestyle,and the idea of creation should be combined with modern aesthetics so as to inherit and develop the Chinese traditional mortise and tenon with high quality.
