As the process of high-speed rail network construction accelerates,an increasing number of small and medium-sized cities are embarking on the construction of high-speed rail station areas to promote a new round of high-quality urban development. In recent years, some studies have explored the characteristics of urban land development after the opening of high-speed rail, but most of them have focused on developed areas such as Shanghai and Shenzhen,as well as macro and meso scales such as urban clusters, city regions, and main urban areas. There has been limited attention to the high-speed rail effects in economically underdeveloped areas of small and mediumsized cities,as well as the micro-scale of station areas. This lack of scientific theories and empirical research results hampers the guidance for the construction of station areas in such regions. To address this, this thesis focused on vectorizing multi-period land use data for a total of 20high-speed rail station areas in the Southwest region and some developed areas.Various mathematical and statistical tools were employed to analyze the scale and structural characteristics of land use in the near, medium, and distant terms of the high-speed rail station areas,as well as to explore the influencing factors.Based on this, the thesis further explored the future development scale and structural prediction of station area land, land premium effects, carbon emission patterns, and the relationship with transportation accessibility to determine comprehensive development objectives for the station areas. In the empirical part of the thesis,Pu’er high-speed rail station area was taken as the object of thesis.By combining genetic algorithms,a land use simulation optimization model for high-speed rail station areas was constructed. It successfully generated ideal land use layout proposals for both the short-term and long-term periods of the Pu’er station area, and corresponding implementation strategies were proposed. The thesis reveals the following findings:(1)The development of land in high-speed rail station areas primarily follows an expansion pattern from the inner to the outer areas.(2)Significant land expansion occurs in station area construction after the operation of the high-speed rail, with the second ring experiencing the highest growth rate.(3)Different influencing factors exhibit time lag effects on the scale of station area construction land.(4)The proportion of residential and transportation land in the station areas is excessively large but showing a declining trend.(5)Factors such as the location of high-speed rail stations profoundly affect the manifestation of land premium effects in station areas.(6)Genetic algorithms have great potential for application in the planning and formulation of land use in station areas.
