| Since the successful bid for the Grand Canal in 2014,the Chinese government has begun to pay attention to the conservation of linear cultural heritage.Government agencies, museums and scholars are actively promoting the investigation, protection and research of linear cultural heritage, and enhancing public awareness and understanding of linear cultural heritage through various means. In 2012,the city of Beijing had proposed to create cultural exploration routes in the city’s master plan and put forward 11 cultural routes, but there are still deficiencies in spatial span planning and resource screening. As a historical and cultural street in Beijing,Dongsi Street has preserved many relics and cultural elements with historical value. This paper integrates and summarizes the dotted relics of Dongsi Street, unearths the connections and historical stories among them, and constructs a cultural exploration route with a complete narrative.Through this cultural exploration route, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of Dongsi Street and feel the unique charm of this area.By constructing a cultural exploration route for Dongsi Street,we summarize the technical route for the construction of the cultural exploration route and provide a suitable framework reference for the construction of a complete historical conservation system for the protection of the historic and cultural city.In addition, the constructed historical and cultural exploratory paths are assessed by combing the current situation, followed by micro-designing the path interface or environment at the street level to enhance the experience of visitors and preserve historical and cultural heritage. The main design tools and strategies are based on repair and mending: including repairing historical buildings and cultural attractions, optimizing road networks and traffic systems, and designing public facilities and signage systems suitable for residents’ lives. This paper summarizes the technical routes for the construction of cultural visitation routes within the historical streets, including the research, screening and integration of relics and cultural elements,as well as the micro-design of routes optimized from the consideration of visitors’ needs and experiences. These technical routes provide a suitable framework reference for the conservation of historic cities, and help to build a complete "point-line-surface at the street level--surface at the historic city level".-The technical routes provide a suitable framework for the conservation of historic cities. |
