Analysis Of Public Space Characteristics Of Traditional Villages Around Chaohu Lake Based On Spatial Syntax

Each traditional village in each region has a distinct regional imprint and cultural heritage,and is an explicit carrier of human historical context.Traditional villages carry the memory of the local area and have formed unique public spaces in long-term development.They are a concentrated reflection of the village’s landscape and a key place for crowd activities,and have important research value.Taking 12 traditional villages in the area around Chaohu Lake as the research object,this study uses spatial syntax to analyze the overall structure and internal form of public spaces in traditional villages,and attempts to explore their structural characteristics and development laws through model construction and data analysis,providing scientific basis for the protection and development of traditional villages.The core content of this study mainly consists of three parts.The first part classifies and sorts out the public spaces of 12 representative villages from two aspects: overall structure and internal form,laying the foundation for quantitative research in the following text.The second part uses the axis analysis method in spatial syntax to analyze the overall public space of traditional villages in the area around Chaohu Lake.Based on different quantitative indicators such as global integration,average depth,selectivity,and connectivity values,relevant parameters and graphical language are read to analyze and explore the overall structural patterns and characteristics.The third part analyzes the internal form of public space through the perspective analysis method in spatial syntax,and discusses the impact of the structural elements of public space on human behavior and activities.By analyzing the public space characteristics of traditional villages around Chaohu Lake from different perspectives,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Spatial syntax is objective and scientific in public spatial analysis.It complements the advantages of traditional qualitative analysis methods and can more systematically analyze the overall structural characteristics and internal morphological laws of cognitive public space.(2)The public space around Chaohu Lake has the characteristics of aggregation,stability,and defense in its overall structure.Through quantitative analysis,it was found that the core public space of a village is the area with the most frequent social activities,the highest pedestrian flow,and the most complex traffic trends,which is easy to attract crowds to gather and produce a certain aggregation effect.Meanwhile,with the evolution and development of the village,the core public space area will not change.Even if the skeleton of its streets and alleys undergoes changes,the core public space area will have a certain degree of extension and expansion,but the main location and form will not change and have a certain degree of continuity and stability.The life style public spaces provided to residents are scattered in the edge of traditional villages.These public spaces have poor reachability,but they can prevent the villagers from outside interference and have the characteristics of shelter and defense.(3)There is a strong correlation between the internal public space and visual elements in the area around Chaohu Lake.The form,scale,and structural elements of public space affect human visual judgment.By changing the form and structure of public spaces,it can better expand the scope of vision,have the function of gathering crowds,behavioral guidance,and psychological suggestion.(4)In terms of inheritance and protection of traditional villages in the area around Chaohu Lake,it is necessary to respect the original spatial framework of the village,pay attention to the overall structure protection of "points,lines,and surfaces",comprehensively consider multiple factors,and formulate protection measures.In terms of updating and developing,it is necessary to comprehensively consider macro planning,adopt a gradual development strategy,and improve the living environment conditions.
