Children rely on the built environment and meet the necessary needs for their own development through basic travel behaviors.Traveling through school as a daily necessary travel behavior for children is crucial to their own growth and the quality of the built environment. With the continuous progress of China’s policies on balanced urban and rural development and rural revitalization, while the suburban villages on the edge of big cities are developing rapidly, although they have abundant natural mountain water resources, traffic problems such as multi-level road convergence and crossing, lack of traffic control, etc.Traffic problems have had a certain impact on children’s independent travel, resulting in a lot of negative travel safety perceptions, and the proportion of children traveling alone and actively traveling has decreased. Therefore, how to improve children’s independent travel and active travel by improving the school environment in suburban villages is worthy of in-depth study. This paper takes parents and children’s safety perception of the general school environment as the starting point,in the context of rural revitalization,urban-rural integration, and child-friendly urban-rural construction, combined with the two theoretical foundations of children’s cognitive developmental psychology and environmental behavior, according to domestic and foreign The literature summarizes the influencing factors of children’s school trips into three categories of 32 factors, including individual factors, social environment and perception factors, objective environment and perception factors, and establishes this paper from a theoretical point of view.and their parents’ perception of environmental safety—children’s trips to school—theoretical research model of the school environment”.Based on the theoretical research model,1509 children aged 6-12 and their parents were selected from the Fifth Experimental Primary School in Yuelu District,Changsha City to conduct an empirical investigation on the suburban villages of Lianhua Town.Parents’ perception of safety in the school environment and the impact of individual differences on children’s travel behavior decision-making.The results show that children’s and parents’ perception of safety in the environment will have a greater impact on children’s travel decisions.Among them, motor vehicle traffic volume and speed, intersections,The complexity of roads, footpaths and bicycle lanes and their infrastructure settings, and natural water elements are the main significant factors that affect children’s school travel. The empirical research model that affects children’s school travel in the suburban rural context is summarized. Finally, combined with theoretical research and empirical research, eight strategies are put forward, including child-friendly policy, learning promotion mechanism, safety education, travel strategy, overall planning, general school environment, natural environment, and detailed design from two aspects of soft environment and hard environment.Improve children’s and parents’ safety perception of the school environment by improving environmental design, upgrading policy mechanisms, etc.so as to further promote children’s independent travel and active travel.
