Traditional residential buildings are an important part of Chinese traditional culture and represent outstanding achievements of ancient Chinese architecture. They are also an important carrier of Chinese cultural heritage.Previous research on traditional reside ntial buildings mainly focused on their history, art, materials, and structure, while resear ch on individual residential spaces was relatively limited.Under the background of urba n renewal, traditional residential buildings have undergone varying degrees of changes i n function and usage.By studying the spatial composition of residential buildings, the o bjective and quantitative relationship between the composition patterns and residents’ lif estyles can be analyzed, which includes the deep structural characteristics beneath the s urface form of the building. This has important significance for the sustainable develop ment of traditional residential buildings in the new era,and it is hoped that it can provid e references for the construction of new residential buildings in today’s society.Based o n this, this article takes the traditional residential buildings on Sanyi Street in Jingzhou City as the research object.More than 100 residential buildings in the northern section o f Sanyi Street were surveyed and visited, and 45 of them were surveyed and mapped.Ei ghteen complete and valuable residential buildings were selected as samples for in-dept h and meticulous composition analysis. The main body of the thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the background, scope a nd object of the study, current domestic and foreign research status, objectives and signi ficance, research content and methods, and expounds the innovation points of the study, and formulates the basic framework of the thesis. The second part introduces the syntactic theory in detail, and explains the meaning of spatial syntax and the construction method of spatial models. The feasibility of spatia l syntax analysis of traditional dwellings is discussed from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The third part analyzes the background and influencing factors of the generation of traditional dwellings in Sanyi Street,Jingzhou City, from the aspects of location and nat ural environment, economy, history and social culture, and analyzes the composition of the block.Based on this, the overall situation, plan form and main spatial form character istics of Sanyi Street dwellings are analyzed and researched through field research and s urveying. The sampling principles are then discussed, and research samples are selected based on these principles. The sample survey report section provides a detailed introduc tion to the current status of each household. The fourth part is the quantitative analysis, which uses the method of spatial syntax quantification analysis.Firstly, the syntactic model is constructed for the sample case,a nd then imported into the software for calculation, and the calculation results are analyz ed.The structural characteristics of the topology of Sanyi Street dwellings are summariz ed from the distribution characteristics and spatial types of nodes, and the overall and lo cal structural features. The fifth part is based on the quantitative analysis, reinterprets the spatial construct ion relationship of Sanyi Street dwellings, and also reveals the interaction between its sp atial organization and social life. The functional layout, movement line composition,an d spatial organizational relationship of each type of dwelling space are discussed.Based on the data, the coordination between local spatial units and the overall is explored thro ugh the analysis of the coordinate distribution characteristics of the scatter plot. Finally, the regularity and distinctive features of the core constructed spaces such as the hall,co urtyard, and corridor are analyzed and studied.
