| The results of the seventh population census show that China’s aging has deepened.At the same time,the comprehensive two-child policy was implemented and the three-child policy was announced.The pressure on families to provide for the elderly and care for children has increased.Urban residential area host a large number of activities for groups of young and old.The neighborhood garden combines the micro-renewal action of the existing settlement,and its composite function adapts to the needs of the elderly and children in the high-density urban environment.Therefore,research on neighborhood garden design strategies for the needs of the elderly and young groups is carried out.First,the study compares and analyzes the physical,mental and behavioral needs of the elderly and young groups,and summarizes their common requirements.According to the existing age-friendly and child-friendly space design strategies and guidelines,the spatial design principles of the two groups are summarized,including security,identification,participative and communicative requirements.These principles provide an entry point for the analysis of neighborhood garden cases.Secondly,the development process and completion cases of neighborhood gardens are analyzed,and the spatial planning,functionality,planting and co-construction elements of neighborhood gardens are summarized.Among them,functional elements include participatory planting,children’s play,nature education,fitness activities,public activities,etc.Spatial planning elements include site conditions,green space planning,plaza space,and road space.Planting elements include plant species,planting trough form and planting organization form.On this basis,based on the design principles of child-friendly and age-friendly spaces,and aiming at building neighborhood gardens shared by the elderly and young groups,the typical cases of age-friendly and child-friendly neighborhood gardens at home and abroad are studied and analyzed.This paper summarizes the functional spaces with clear user objects and mature design strategies,including nature education,children’s play,and fitness facilities,and further discusses the participatory planting functions shared by the elderly and young groups,and the space design strategies of intergenerational parenting and intergenerational communication between the old and the young.In order to further identify the key elements of the age-friendly and child-friendly neighborhood garden,the study conducted a questionnaire survey for the elderly and young groups in Beijing,and used factor analysis and multiple linear regression method to carry out data analysis.The results show that plant species,planting space,participating peers and public facilities are the key factors in the construction of neighborhood gardens that are friendly to the elderly and children.The study proposes corresponding design strategies from four aspects: the spatial layout requirements of neighborhood gardens,the selection and organization of plants,the spatial form and layout of participatory planting,and the selection of public facilities.Finally,this paper takes the Mao residential groups of Baiwanzhuang Neighborhood in Beijing as an example to carry out the design practice of age-friendly and child-friendly neighborhood garden.Based on the sunshine conditions of the public space of the residential area,the existing site plants,the cultural elements of the place,etc.,the design strategy of age-friendly and child-friendly is proposed to explore its rationality and feasibility.The neighborhood garden is friendly to the elderly and children,which provides a place for the elderly groups to establish stable social interactions,integrate into the neighborhood,provide opportunities for children to contact and understand nature,establish intergenerational communication,and improve the quality of life of the elderly and young groups.In conclusion,this research presents a practical case study of designing age-friendly neighborhood gardens,using the Mao district of the Baiwanzhuang neighborhood in Beijing as an illustrative example. |
