Abstract/Summary:
Due to the periodicity of bus departures and the complexity of road traffic, there are situations where dedicated bus lanes are idle and other lanes are congested.Idle dedicated bus lanes cause waste of road resources and seriously affect the efficiency of vehicle traffic at intersections. In order to improve the utilization rate of dedicated bus lanes and reduce intersection delays, this thesis proposes dynamic sharing schemes of dedicated bus lanes for two different environments.Under the principle of ensuring bus priority, social vehicles are allowed to enter dedicated bus lanes. The main work and achievements of this thesis are summarized as follows:(1)This thesis proposes a real-time dynamic sharing scheme of dedicated bus lanes based on monitors. Two bus GPS monitors are set upstream of the intersection to monitor the buses approaching the intersection. This scheme uses the lane signals to inform drivers whether they can enter the dedicated bus lane. This thesis introduces the concepts of instantaneous entry rate and effective green light time, and establishes an optimization model aiming at maximizing the number of vehicles entering the dedicated bus lane during the sharing period.By controlling the setting of monitoring points, this model maximizes the sharing benefit of the dedicated bus lane.(2)This thesis proposes a real-time dynamic sharing scheme of dedicated bus lanes based on GPS observation. This scheme uses GPS to observe the bus position at the intersection and the number of vehicles in the bus lane.Combined with the main signal display, the scheme analyzes the observation data to comprehensively calculate the relationship between the overall vehicle delay at the intersection before and after the dedicated bus lane sharing at the current moment. This scheme uses lane signals to inform drivers whether they can enter the dedicated bus lane. This thesis introduces the concept of affected vehicles and builds a lane signal control model to reduce the total delay at the intersection.(3)Aiming at the real-time dynamic sharing scheme of dedicated bus lanes based on monitors, this thesis introduces numerical examples to focus on the optimal setting scheme of monitoring points in several common situations, and compared with the intersection without monitor and lane signals, proving that this scheme can effectively reduce the intersection delay.Aiming at the real-time dynamic sharing scheme of dedicated bus lanes based on GPS observation, this thesis numerically simulates the display of the lane signal in a variety of different situations, proving that the control method is more in line with the actual situation.
