| With the aging of the population becoming a global issue,demographic trends indicate that the elderly population is the fastest growing part of the world’s population,particularly in regions such as China,Japan,and Europe.China entered an aging society in 1999,and by 2022,the country is facing the most severe aging situation in its history.Currently,China has the largest aging population in the world,with over 100 million elderly people.In recent years,with the continuous rise of the aging population in China,the issue of elderly care has become a focus of attention for the whole society."Home" plays a crucial role in the daily life of the elderly,and utilizing the power of science to provide elderly people with a safe and comfortable home in their later years is our responsibility and obligation.However,the development of home environment design in China has not received sufficient attention and support,resulting in a lag in development.Interior design should deeply consider the principles and strategies of home environment design for the elderly,so that "home" can adapt to the changes in the characteristics of the elderly,helping them complete their daily activities in indoor spaces,reduce obstacles in their home life,and also provide design assistance in their behaviors and cognition,allowing elderly people to smoothly pass through the most impactful phase of their life.This article takes aging-related theories and China’s existing home-based elderly care model as a starting point,and explores the specific principles and implementation strategies of aging-friendly design in home environments for the elderly.Firstly,this article elaborates on the research background,purpose,and current situation,with the aim of gaining an in-depth understanding of the practical situation of aging-friendly home design.Secondly,the article analyzes the concept,process,and challenges of aging,and discusses the problems in China’s current home-based elderly care model and the elderly home environment.To address these challenges and solve these problems,this article analyzes the elderly care needs based on the changes in the physical and psychological characteristics of the elderly.Subsequently,by referring to excellent aging-friendly home environment design cases both domestically and internationally,this article summarizes aging-friendly home design principles.These principles include but are not limited to adaptability,inclusiveness,accessibility,and comfort.Finally,based on all the content mentioned above,this article proposes a variety of strategies for aging-friendly home environment design,including separation of static and dynamic areas,circular traffic lines,color application,and detailed design strategies for various functional areas,solving potential problems in aging-friendly home environments from a macro to micro level.Moreover,the importance of indoor environmental factors such as lighting,acoustics,air,and odor in elderly people’s homes is emphasized,and guiding design strategies for environmental factors are pointed out,achieving a comprehensive design of aging-friendly home environments.Ultimately,integrating the concept of intelligent home environment design with aging-friendly housing design,this article explores how to use advanced intelligent technology to help elderly people obtain a safer,more efficient,and satisfactory life experience in their daily activities and indoor spaces.The development of aging-friendly home environment design in China is still a long and tortuous process.As each grain of sand contributes to the tower,and each river contributes to the ocean,this article is one exploration,hoping to inject new content into the development of aging-friendly home environment design in China,and to promote further development and innovation in this field. |
