The area around Taihu Lake is an area where ancient Chinese civilization originated earlier and continued for a long time. The water body of Taihu Lake has brought abundant natural resources and superior climatic conditions, which has bred many traditional villages to form and develop continuously.Rapid urbanization brings new ways of life to the villagers, but also brings certain challenges to the development of traditional villages. The population loss and hollowing of the villages have caused a significant reduction in the vitality of public space, which further put forward new requirements for the living utilization of traditional villages’ waterfront space.Firstly, through Arc GIS analysis of the selected eight traditional villages around Taihu Lake, the paper finds that the villages are all located below 200 m above sea level, within 3km of river buffer distance and within 25 degrees of slope. This shows that the location of the village is suitable for local conditions, chooses low water concentration and tends to live in a gentle area. The special water network plain conditions can bring sufficient resources and good microclimate conditions to the village.Secondly, based on the field research on 8 traditional villages, the patterns of villages and water bodies are divided into three types at macro level: dependent type, surrounded type and threaded type,in which the surrounded type includes embracing type and eight hexagrams type, while the threaded type includes two-water multi-land type and multi-water multi-land type.On the medium level, the waterfront space is divided into point, line and surface. Then on the micro level, combining the spatial horizon aggregation and field research,it is found that the use of space is related to its environment, importance and status in the village, and the behavior activities of people are investigated and analyzed.Then,ENVI-met was used to simulate and analyze the overall water body pattern and the impact of waterfront spatial pattern on micro-climate.It was found that the order of influence of different water system patterns on micro-climate in traditional villages ranged from large to small: multi-water and multi-land pattern > dependent pattern > two-water and multi-land pattern > eight hexagrams pattern > encircling pattern. After simulation analysis of different forms of waterfront space,it is found that the point-shaped waterfront space mainly affects the shading degree of the space top interface, and the space microclimate with strong shading degree is better. There are different forms of river-crossing space in linear waterfront space, and there is little difference in micro-climate between the one-street-one-river type and the twostreet-one-river type. The main difference of planar waterfront space is space enclosure, and the micro-climate of open space is generally better than that of closed space.Thirdly, according to the research and analysis, the existing problems of Traditional Village waterfront space are mainly insufficient correlation of surrounding environment, damage of material space environment and lack of vitality of space use.Guided by the three major problems found,a dynamic monitoring and evaluation system for the living utilization of waterfront space in traditional villages was established. After weight calculation,it is found that the material space environment weight in the criterion layer is the highest, the space place weight in the element layer is the highest, and the wind speed weight in the sub-element layer is the highest.Afterwards,a scoring standard of 1-5 points is made for each evaluation index,in which microclimate takes the division of different intervals of human comfort score as the evaluation standard, thus realizing the quantitative scoring evaluation of waterfront space. The final score is divided into 4 grades and different active utilization methods are proposed for different grades. Finally, through dynamic monitoring of space population and micro-climatic environment,an empirical evaluation study is carried out on the waterfront space of each measuring point in the traditional village of Zhou Tie in Yixing City. The scores and grades of all types of waterfront space are obtained.According to the results of classification of evaluation scores,it can be seen that all three types of spaces need to be micro-renewed and rectified and optimized. Finally, according to the problems existing in various types of space criterion layer, corresponding optimization strategies are put forward, and the optimization strategies at the micro-climate level are simulated by software to prove their feasibility.
