In recent years, there has developed the sea river intermodal transportation system and basically built a high-grade waterway network in the Yangtze River Delta. To further improve the accessibility and transportation capacity of the waterway network, the governance of oneway waterway is imminent.A good one-way waterway setting form can realize the two-way navigation of ships, which will greatly improve the traffic efficiency of the waterway network. Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the feasibility and rationality of two-way navigation mode in one-way waterway.Carrying out the ship-following experiment, combining with the traffic flow theory, using the technologies of data analysis and ship traffic simulation,two-way navigation modes in one-way inland waterway were studied. It provides a theoretical basis for the design and operation management of one-way waterway. The specific research is as follows:Firstly, using the data of ship-following experiment in Xicheng Canal, the characteristics of ship traffic flow in inland restricted waterway were studied, including speed-spacing relationships based on GM model, speed and spacing distribution of ships, minimum speed and minimum safe spacing, fundamental diagrams and economic speed. Then a ship traffic simulation model was constructed using MATLAB operating environment, and the ship following part of the model was verified. It laid a theoretical and simulation foundation for the follow-up research.Secondly, the key parameters and ship delay of two two-way navigation modes in oneway inland waterway were studied.According to the principle of tidal navigation, the tidal cycle and the minimum capacity required of berthing area in two-way tidal navigation mode were calculated.Using the simulation of ship traffic in inland waterway, the conditions required for two-way continuous navigation of one-way waterway were analyzed, and the calculation method of the distance between adjacent meeting areas was given.Based on the delay characteristics of the two two-way navigation modes, the critical conditions for the selection of the two navigation modes were proposed. Finally, case studies on the shipping status and characteristics of two one-way waterways in Shanghai were set, namely the Dapu Waterway and Huigao Waterway, using the idea of two-way tidal navigation and two-way continuous navigation respectively. The results show that the minimum capacity required of berthing area and average delay of ships in two-way tidal navigation mode are positively correlated with the waterway length and ship arrival rate, while negatively correlated with ship speed. The two-way continuous navigation of one-way waterway can be realized only when the ships arrive evenly and the arrival rate is less than 4 ships/h,with the meeting area being set reasonably. The distance between adjacent meeting areas is directly proportional to the ship speed and inversely proportional to the ship arrival rate. The average ship delay of two-way continuous navigation mode is only inversely proportional to the ship arrival rate. The longer the one-way waterway, the greater the arrival rate of ships, and the better use of two-way continuous navigation mode. When the one-way waterway length is 5km,10 km and 20 km respectively, the minimum arrival rate of ships suitable for two-way continuous navigation is 1.71 ships/h,0.87 ships/h and 0.44ships/h respectively.Otherwise,two-way tidal navigation should be adopted.
