In recent years,China’s latecomers are facing the challenge of transitioning from "catchers" to "leaders".Simply relying on the introduction of advanced technology cannot meet their development needs,let alone achieve technological breakthroughs.In a more open and complex environment,innovation becomes the core for latecomers to gain and maintain competitive advantages.Dual innovation combines the advantages of exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation,and the application of its model is a key factor for latecomer enterprises to successfully surpass and catch up.Therefore,how to implement appropriate innovation strategies to achieve technological breakthroughs is an urgent problem that latecomers need to solve.This article selects BYD as the case study object.Firstly,based on the latecomer enterprise technology catch-up theory,dual innovation theory,and innovation efficiency theory,a case study is conducted on BYD’s technology catch-up process since entering the automotive industry in 2003,exploring how it utilizes dual innovation to achieve surpassing catch-up,and summarizing the driving mechanisms behind it.Secondly,this article uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process to construct a dual innovation performance evaluation system,and uses the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to analyze BYD’s innovation achievements from two levels:innovation input performance and innovation output performance.The evaluation results indicate that BYD has achieved excellent innovation results by constructing different dual innovation models,and its implementation of dual innovation strategy is effective.Finally,this article proposes suggestions and countermeasures for the technology catch-up of latecomers.This article focuses on the characteristics of latecomer enterprises in new energy vehicles and the application of the dual innovation model by case companies.It proposes a technological catch-up path constructed by latecomer enterprises using dual innovation during the catch-up process,which helps latecomer enterprises apply the dual innovation model and has certain guiding significance for achieving overtaking catch-up. |
