With the deepening of urbanization in China,different types of construction projects continue to be launched,benefiting social production and residents’ lives.However,the rapid development has also caused construction enterprises to have overcapacity,waste of resources,and they have to face fierce market competition,so construction enterprises should find a development mode that can take into account economic benefits and effective use of resources.A good cost management approach can help companies save costs and improve profit margins,so as to achieve sustainable development goals.The earned value method is a widely used cost management method because it has the characteristics of coordinated consideration of progress and cost,but its shortcomings such as insufficient cost analysis and inaccurate problems are increasingly prominent,and it is no longer able to meet the actual management needs.This paper firstly summarizes the project cost management theory and related researches on earned value method and critical path method,and finds that the traditional earned value method has two inherent defects,which are unable to comprehensively manage project cost and misjudging the actual cost of the project.Secondly,sort out the relevant content of project cost management,sort out the principles and standardized processes of earned value method and other related methods,and decide to combine critical path identification and multi-level earned value analysis as the means to improve earned value method,then how to combine them And to determine the standardized application steps,and whether it is suitable for project cost management activities and can play an effective role,this is the key content of the study.On this basis,the specific application process of the multi-level earned value method under the critical path is further constructed,including the project decomposition structure,work relationship sorting and so on.Taking the HX project as a case project,the multi-level earned value method under the critical path is actually applied on this project,and the application effect of the original cost management system of the project and the traditional earned value method is compared,and the multi-level earned value method under the critical path is deeply analyzed.The application effect of earned value method in engineering projects.The study found that the multi-level earned value method under the traditional earned value method key path can improve the project cost management effect of the traditional earned value method,improve the accuracy of earned value analysis and other advantages.By constructing and verifying the validity of the multi-level earned value method under the critical path,this paper can not only provide some enlightenment for the research of project cost management method,but also have certain significance for the exploration of ideas and practical application of the earned value method.
