With the deepening of China’s aging, the problem of urban elderly living is increasingly prominent.Due to the continuous construction of cities,a large number of young people flow to new residential areas, while the elderly are more inclined to live in a familiar environment, which,to some extent, leads to a larger proportion of the elderly in old communities than in general communities and a serious aging population. However, the living environment of the old communities is not suitable for the elderly, and the land resources are limited, and the elderly facilities and services are insufficient, which cannot meet the living needs of the elderly in the new era.The more mature international theory of the former home care for the elderly provides a train of thought for China’s old-age care model. On the basis of home-based old-age care, the living environment of the elderly is expanded to the community level, and the community security system is constantly improved. The aging reconstruction of the old community will not only transform the living space of the elderly, the external space of the community,as an important part of the daily activities of the elderly, can meet the physiological, psychological and social needs of the elderly, the external space with good environmental quality can not be ignored. This paper takes the outer space of the old community in Changsha city as the research object and category, investigates the spatial environment of the old community in Changsha city and the behavioral needs of the elderly in the community, and proposes the age-appropriate renewal strategy that is suitable for the climate, topography and human characteristics of Changsha city. From the perspective of community management and social policy, the paper makes an overall framework for the feasibility and sustainability of the renewal of the external space environment of the old community. The paper is divided into three parts: first, the first chapter introduces arguments on the background of population aging, defines relevant concepts, sorts out research progress at home and abroad, and determines research contents and methods. Then, the second chapter combs the theories related to this topic, mainly from three aspects:the space design theory of environmental behavior, the theory related to the characteristics and needs of the elderly, and the theory of the old people. The third chapter through the domestic and foreign community suitable for aging and old community reconstruction case analysis, from which to find inspiration. The fourth chapter in changsha old community outer space suitable for aging analysis, basic situation of changsha regional characteristics, changsha old, changsha old community, summarized the general situation of the outer space, further in-depth investigation and study, and through to the changsha old neighborhood three typical field research, summed up the changsha old community’s outer space condition and characteristics of the elderly activities; Finally, the fifth chapter according to the original content of the old community of changsha city to put forward the overall transformation of the old community space, several elderly activities of the nodes put forward a specific renewal strategy, and the detailed design of the space recommendations. In this paper, the concept of old residents’ safety is applied to the external space renewal design of old communities, and the elderly’s needs and living satisfaction are taken as the starting point of the design to emphasize the importance of the elderly in the overall pattern of external space renewal.Taking the regional element as a supporting point of renewal,a new idea of spatial renewal is put forward from the perspective of architecture.Through the analysis and research of this paper, the author hopes to provide some references for the reconstruction of the old communities in changsha and other slope areas in the future.
