| The development of the energy sector to protect the environment and shift away from traditional energy production methods is one of the most critical objectives and challenges for the future. In addition,a growing group of prosumers, people who act as energy producers and consumers,is challenging energy companies whose strategies must be based on consensual cooperation between them and the government. The Smart Grid,an electrical network that enables two-way electricity and data flow to detect and respond to usage problems using digital communication technology, can significantly help achieve this. This thesis’ objective is to analyse how to effectively implement Smart Grid technologies in Poland based on innovation policies, how to encourage people to produce their own energy, and how energy companies can approach all energy actors, from society to government institutions. On the first level, the study provides an overview of incentives and policy levers, focusing on examples from the US,China, and the European Union, which successfully apply new energy technologies. The focus is on the modernisation of energy systems that leads to new environmentally-friendly approaches, the activation of the prosumer sector, and various government policies. The first part of the analysis is conducted by relying on qualitative method, specifically on the theoretical framework proposed by Rothwell and Zegveld(1984),which was devised to assess government innovation policies. The second-level analysis, which discusses the prosumer’s role and factors that can incentivise energy consumers to become prosumers is based on the results of the questionnaire devised by the researcher for the purpose of this thesis. The second part is therefore a quantitative data research. The thesis concludes that it is essential to introduce policies that in a balanced way impact the supply, environment, and demand sides of energy consumption and to focus on activating the prosumer base. The key is to develop a relationship between energy companies, governments, and prosumers to smooth the adoption of a new, innovative business model based on mutual cooperation.Additional research is required to better understand the problems of aging energy systems and climate change to develop appropriate strategies and implement them effectively. |
