| China is the most populous country in the world, with a large and widely distributed population. However, the mismatch between population and resource distribution is not conducive to the effective distribution of resources. Therefore,it is urgent to take measures to promote the balanced development of the population structure in space. The rapid development of high-speed railways has created convenient transportation conditions for population transfer and agglomeration, which is not only conducive to optimizing population distribution, but also improving the efficiency and quality of regional economic development. This paper mainly focuses on the effect of the opening of high-speed railway on population agglomeration and the causal relationship between the operation of high-speed railway and the formation of population agglomeration.relationship with population agglomeration. The impact of high-speed railway on population agglomeration is analyzed from the theoretical and empirical parts respectively. In terms of theoretical analysis, starting from the basic characteristics of high-speed railway and the main factors affecting population agglomeration, the population agglomeration effect of high-speed railway is divided into agglomeration effect and dispersion effect. The effect of high-speed rail on population agglomeration is reflected in increasing regional accessibility, promoting the flow of factors, promoting economic and social development, and making population agglomeration. The dispersion effect of high-speed railway on population agglomeration is reflected in the economic diffusion effect of high-speed railway. In terms of empirical analysis, first of all,the population agglomeration indicators of cities in my country from2003 to 2019 are analyzed, and the trend of population agglomeration and the correlation between high-speed rail construction and population agglomeration are comparatively studied.Next,a different time double-difference model is established for the opening of high-speed railway and population agglomeration indicators, and the differential impact of the opening of high-speed railway on population agglomeration is verified through heterogeneity analysis and stability test. Then, the operation status of the urban highspeed railway is measured, and then the Granger causality test is carried out with the population agglomeration index to explore the causal relationship between the two.Through theoretical and empirical analysis, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)The impact of high-speed rail on population agglomeration can be divided into two aspects: promotion and inhibition.High-speed railways create conditions for the flow of population and capital, affect the development of economy, industry and society, and have different effects on population agglomeration in different cities.(2)After the opening of the high-speed railway, the level of urban population agglomeration has changed significantly, and the trend of population agglomeration has also changed.(3)For economically developed cities and small cities with potential to be developed, the opening of high-speed railways has an inhibitory effect on population agglomeration;while for cities with potential economic development at a medium level, the opening of high-speed railways can promote population agglomeration.(4)There is a Granger causality in the impact of high-speed railways on population agglomeration. |
