The change of spatial hierarchy generally exists in architecture, which is manifested in the spatial relationship between "Served versus Servant" in form and function.By analyzing the relationship between the service space and served space in Jeffrey Bawa ’s(1919-2003)architecture,this paper reveals that his works are different from the "No confusion" binary relationship represented by Louis Isadore Kahn(1901-1974),but contain multiple nested and overlapping spatial levels.grew up in the era of the alternation of the old and the new,the problem of humanistic relations and space hierarchy he faced is more complex, subtle and specific, which is reflected in architecture. His attitude is also very different from Kahn’s:Instead of clearly distinguish between the service space and the served space,Bawa emphasizes the internal correlation difference between the two.He carefully distinguishes function and behavior, and substitutes them into different spatial levels. He tried to respond to the ethical order inside the building in a mild way.The segmentation of the full text is also based on his hierarchical relationship of architectural space, and analyzed from three levels: macro, meso and micro.Firstly, residential and hotel projects are mainly selected for analysis, because they are the most numerous projects designed by Bawa and the most representative type of spatial relationship on "Served versus Servant".extract and analyze its spatial layout and main moving lines from a macro perspective, and sort out the characteristics and changes of the overall relationship between the served area and the service area.Secondly, combs the served area from a meso perspective, which is the most carefully and complex spatial relationships areas of Bawa’s architecture. This part mainly analyzes the hierarchical structure, spatial configuration and performance of the project, and discriminates Bawa’s specific differential treatment of different levels of served space and service space. Finally, discusses the treatment of the spatial boundary between different levels of space from a micro perspective, and pointed out that his subdivision of spatial level corresponds with functional behavior..This paper aims to study the one-sided understanding and limitations of spatial relations in case analysis and design practice, and to explore and inspire a design strategy to deal with the relationship between service space and served space.
