Research On The Elements In Architectures Of Geoffrey Bawa

Jeffrey Bawa is considered to be one of the most important architects in Asia in twentieth Century.His architectural works and ideas have been widely fixed in two areas : On the one hand is the "tropical regionalism" as the core, reflecting the concept of symbiosis environment factors of modern architecture and regional climate and natural environment; on the other hand is the architectural phenomenon in the "context" as the core, reflecting the idea of integration of modern architecture and society, history, tradition and culture and humanistic factors. However, the author through of Bawa architectural thoughts and practice of work study, Bawa buildings of other architects inspired not only the above two aspects. In this paper, the author tries to body perception by the architectural space in the Bawa to roaming mode, analysis of the element in the building function and performance, the relationship between architectural elements and other environmental factors, and the corresponding spatial manipulation.This paper consists of five chapters, which fall into three sections. Section one(Chapter l) cl arifies the reason, the meaning and the function in architecture design. It also discusses the propo sal of the topics, the meaning and goal of the study, the current situation and the manner of today`s study, and the paper structure as well. Section two(chapter 2 to 4) deals with “Corporality” in B awa`s building from the aspects of Earthwork(Mound,Pavement, Stair), Framework( Wall, Pillar,Beam,Eaves,Roof)and Zhuangzhe(Door,Window,Furniture).Section three(chapter 5) c oncentrates on the conclusion and enlightenment. The conclusion analysis “Corporality” in Bawa`s building, pointing out the inspiration to current architecture development.
