Abstract/Summary:
Traditional settlements contain hundreds or even thousands of years of historical and cultural accumulation as well as spatial material forms. However, with the homogenization of urban space, traditional settlements are losing their unique regional flavor. For example, there are a series of chaotic constructions in the Hakka Earth Building settlements in the southeast of China. The vacancy rate of earth Buildings increases, and a large number of self-built houses destroy the traditional features, leading to the chaos of the environment texture of the settlements. Many"parasitic" indiscriminate construction on the earth buildings, seriously damage the original characteristics of traditional architecture;Blind development and construction encroachment on the traditional public space, weakening the public service system, aggravating the hollowing out, aging phenomenon. In recent years, regionalist architects have emerged, trying to integrate traditional settlement elements into rural construction. However, many designs are still limited to the single building level. The theory of the Collective Form proposed by the Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki provides a solution to the construction of the traditional rural settlement--the study of the relationship between the individuals and the whole from the "collective point of view of buildings and quasi-buildings",and the exploration of the method for the individual elements to take part in the ensemble.Traditional settlements have the characteristics of natural collective form and provide people with active and effective high-quality space resources in a selforganizing way. However, the blindly rural construction destroys the natural advantages cultivated by geography and humanity over thousands of years. In order to maximize the spatial advantages of collective while maintaining the traditional settlement form and alleviate the contradictory relationship between the traditional settlement context and the needs of modern life,it has certain research significance for the development background of traditional settlements and rural construction in China at present. In addition, although the theory of Collective Form is rooted in the settlement,it lacks the relevance and systematic theoretical combing with the traditional settlement form itself, and for the settlement families with complex characteristics,it also needs to have the interpretation method and application strategy according to local conditions. This paper firstly sorts out the development of Collective Form theory and related concepts, and constructs the vision of settlement space under the collective view from three dimensions of "system, external and unit".Secondly, taking the earth building settlement in Nanjiang Village,Yongding District,Fujian Province as the model, the coupling of earth building settlement and the spatial concept of collective morphology in Nanjiang Village was studied from three scales of "macro, meso and micro".Then, based on the analysis results, the collective space renewal strategies of traditional settlements are extracted from the three categories of "building collective, external environment and building interior".Finally, through the renewal concept design of Nanjiang Village earth building settlement to verify, hoping to achieve the purpose of applying, improving and complementing the theoretical system of collective form, and with an organic thinking to respond to the development of rural construction,to achieve the integration of architecture and environment and the continuation of the context of the settlement.
