At present, the large amount of carbon dioxide emitted by human activities has led to the greenhouse effect and triggered a series of climate disasters. In order to cope with this crisis and challenge, countries around the world have advocated a low-carbon economy based on low energy consumption, low emissions and low pollution, and China has also put forward the goal of implementing carbon peak before 2030 and implementing carbon neutrality before 2060.At the same time,China’s digital industrialization process is in the ascendant, data,as its key production factors, integrated with traditional production factors such as labor, capital and land, improves the level of informatization and resource allocation efficiency of the entire society,is conducive to reducing carbon emissions, and achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality as soon as possible.Based on the research idea of theory-empirical-countermeasures,this paper takes26 cities in the Yangtze River Delta city cluster from 2000 to 2020 as the research objects, and uses empirical analysis methods such as regulation effect and heterogeneity analysis to focus on the impact and role path of digital industrialization on carbon emission reduction in the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration. This paper’s main contents consist of six parts, the first part is the introduction, the second part is the relevant concepts and theoretical basis combing, the third part is the measurement and development characteristics of digital industrialization and carbon emission in the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration, the fourth part is the theoretical mechanism analysis of digital industrialization to promote carbon emission reduction, the fifth part is the empirical analysis of the impact of digital industrialization on carbon emission reduction in the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration, and the sixth part is the research conclusion and countermeasure suggestions. The results show that the digital industry of the Yangtze River Delta city cluster continues to tilt towards service-oriented,and the digital industry presents the spatial distribution characteristics and aggregation trend of "provincial capitals and central cities leading the demonstration, and small and medium-sized cities advancing together".Its carbon emissions increase year by year, showing a distribution pattern of high east and low west and clustered to urban circles,as well as obvious characteristics of high carbon emission aggregation.Digital industrialization and carbon emissions of the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration have an inverted U-shaped curve relationship of "first increase, then suppression",and the overall digital industrialization level of the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration is still in the stage of increasing carbon emissions.Technological progress and industrial structure upgrading paths help to realize the carbon emission reduction effect of digital industrialization in advance. The threshold for the number of enterprises that have achieved carbon emission reduction in the Internet and its related service industries is the highest, while the threshold for the number of enterprises in cultural digital content and its service industries, electronic information mechanical and electrical manufacturing, and special electronic equipment manufacturing industries is low. Finally, policy suggestions such as innovating digital technology to ensure the development of digital industry were put forward. This research has important application value for promoting the low-carbon development of digital industry in the Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration, promoting ecological protection and economic development, and solving the problem of greenhouse effect.
