Research On Problems And Countermeasures In Implementation Of Garbage Separation Policy On Campus In Shenzhen

As China’s economic growth and urbanization accelerates,the amount of urban waste is increasing,leading to increasingly prominent waste management problems.In order to achieve sustainable development,urban household waste needs to be reduced and resourced in its management,and garbage classification has become a key step in urban household waste management.Through classifying garbage on campus,students can develop the habits of thrift,waste reduction,low-carbon and environmental protection from childhood,thus forming a good social atmosphere that educates a student,influences a family,drives a community and leads the whole society.The active participation of the younger generation in environmental behavior will help cultivate citizens to participate in sustainable urban household waste management,and thus become strong practitioners in the process of urban garbage classification.This study first investigated the current situation of garbage classification in Shenzhen campus by taking the example of Y high school campus in Shenzhen,Guangdong Province,and obtained the amount of waste generated in this campus through long-term follow-up interviews,and analyzed the characteristics of campus waste generation and the accuracy of placing waste.Secondly,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 2,140 high school students in 60 high schools in Shenzhen to analyze their knowledge and awareness of household garbage classification,their sorting behavior,and the factors influencing the behavior.Finally,based on the current situation of campus garbage classification and the problems reflected in the questionnaire survey,in-depth interviews were conducted with 18 staff members from the competent departments and school authorities in Shenzhen to find out the problems and causes in the implementation of mandatory garbage sorting policies by the government and school authorities.Finally,countermeasures and suggestions were put forward to further strengthen the implementation of campus garbage classification policy.The results of the study show that the average daily amount of garbage generated in Y campus is 1223.5 kg,with an average of 372 grams of garbage per person per day.The average garbage placement accuracy rate is 56.86%,and the garbage placement accuracy rate in each area is related to the production of a certain dominant garbage in that area.The results of the questionnaire show that Shenzhen high school students have some knowledge about garbage classification,and most of them hold a positive attitude toward garbage classification,but it all depends whether most of them participate in waste separation.In addition,factors such as the publicity and education of garbage classification,the convenience of facilities,and the reward and punishment system all have significant positive effects on the behavior of garbage classification among high school students in Shenzhen.Combining the above findings and interviews with various authorities,the main problems and their causes of garbage classification in Shenzhen schools nowadays were summarized.In response to these problems,countermeasure suggestions are proposed,including improving the rules of policies related to campus waste classification,fully mobilizing and coordinating various government departments to jointly promote household waste classification,designating special personnel to be responsible for campus waste classification,increasing financial investment and construction of campus waste classification facilities,further deepening the publicity and education of campus waste classification,and innovating the incentive mechanism for campus waste classification.
