A Study On The Application Of Jiangnan Su-style Literati Furniture Of Late Ming Dynasty In Contemporary Space

During the late Ming Dynasty,handicrafts thrived in Jiangnan,and the active participation of craftsmen continuously improved the level of craftsmanship.Due to the chaotic political environment and the rise of secular culture,literati began to have higher aesthetic requirements for furniture and participated in its production,resulting in exquisite Su-style literati furniture.These furniture pieces were highly appreciated for their styling and cultural connotations,becoming an important part of living spaces at that time.With the changes of the times,modern living spaces have become characterized by miniaturization,and functionalization,and influenced by technology and cultural diversity.Demands for environmental protection and individualization have become more prominent,posing challenges for the integration and inheritance of Su-style literati furniture in contemporary spaces.Currently,academic research on Sustyle literati furniture mainly focuses on its styling features,literati production standards,and ancient book records.There is relatively little research on the application of traditional Su-style literati furniture in contemporary settings.Addressing how to harmoniously integrate late Ming Jiangnan Su-style literati furniture into contemporary living spaces is an important aspect of this research.This article examines the relationship between late Ming literati in Jiangnan and Su-style furniture,explores the cultural perspectives of late Ming literati in Jiangnan,studies the influence of literati on the creation of Su-style furniture,and elucidates the ways and principles in which late Ming Jiangnan Su-style literati furniture can be integrated into modern living spaces by studying the spatial display ideas of late Ming Jiangnan literati.Through an analysis of the scale,materials,and decorations of Sustyle literati furniture,this article reveals the scientific,practical,and aesthetic values embodied in these furniture pieces and showcases their cultural heritage.Furthermore,this article explores the sublime aesthetic of Su-style furniture created by late Ming literati,who integrated the ideas of Zen and philosophy into their furniture to emphasize the cultural value of Su-style literati furniture,which is also the significance of integrating and inheriting Su-style literati furniture in contemporary spaces.Regarding the integration of traditional Su-style literati furniture into modern living spaces,this article thoroughly examines the methods and principles of integration.By studying the spatial display ideas of late Ming Jiangnan literati,such as "complying with the nature of the heart" and "freeing the spirit through emptiness," this article provides some reference and inspiration for the inheritance and application of furniture.Finally,through a practical case study of villa interior design,this article showcases the design concepts and practical application of integrating late Ming Jiangnan Su-style literati furniture into modern living spaces.The results of the research and practice on the application of Su-style literati furniture in contemporary spaces demonstrate the unique value of Su-style literati furniture in terms of aesthetic features,cultural connotations,practicality,and other aspects,which provides important inspiration for the design of modern Chinese-style living spaces.Therefore,the study and exploration of the late Ming dynasty’s Jiangnan Su-style literati furniture not only contribute to a better understanding and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture but also provide useful references and guidance for the design of modern living spaces.
