With the development of time and the confidence of traditional culture,people’s lives keep constantly changing,and therefore,furniture cannot remain the same.Although the current potential of the Chinese furniture market is huge,the innovative design strength and product presentation of modern Chinese furniture tend to be weak and homogenous.How to inherit tradition and achieve modern pluralistic innovation has become an important question in modern Chinese furniture design.This thesis introduces the concept of innovation 2.0 era,explains the creation concept that combines “Form” in material level and “Meaning” in spiritual level,taking Ming dynasty furniture and the connotation of literati in late Ming dynasty as research prototype of Chinese furniture version 1.0,and investigate and analyze the current status and problems of modern Chinese furniture from multi-faceted methods to summarize the predicament faced by modern Chinese furniture and analyze the cause of modern Chinese furniture version 2.0 from the perspectives of environment,society and human,including design factors to know the status quo of development and innovation,big data to know industry status,and questionnaire to know the psychological needs of consumers for the diversification of modern Chinese furniture.This thesis discusses the characteristics of Chinese furniture version 2.0 from four aspects of "type,color,quality,and meaning",including the variety,compound and harmony of type;thematic collocation of color;comprehensive use of artificial and natural materials;combination of traditional and modern meaning,proposes a thinking method for the innovative design of Chinese furniture version 2.0,incorporating five design thinking methods,namely target systemic analysis,innovative anti-logic,contemporary information analysis and technology prediction,clever association and metaphor,and establishes a “form and meaning in one” design model,which proposes "10 level" theoretical methods of innovative design in the level of “form”,and the explicit and implicit expressions of traditional and modern ideas in the level of “meaning”.The research results will contribute to the inheritance and innovation between Chinese furniture version 1.0 and 2.0 in research,providing a new design method and strategies to seek for the balance between tradition and modern time,and the harmony in form and connotation,to promote the diversified innovation of products,and to meet diversified individual needs in designing modern Chinese furniture.
