Pesticides and fertilizers,as yield-increasing elements, play a vital role in promoting agricultural production, increasing farmers’ income, and ensuring food production security. However, while these elements improve agricultural production efficiency, they also cause agricultural pollution emissions and damage to the agricultural ecological environment. In order to further strengthen agricultural ecological environment management and promote green transformation of agricultural production,China has repeatedly carried out chemical fertilizer and pesticide reduction and efficiency work to promote the goal of zero growth of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. At present, when China’s agricultural development into a new stage of accelerating the green transformation.Under the new situation,it is important to explore the spatial heterogeneity of fertilizer and pesticide yield-increasing factor inputs affecting agricultural eco-efficiency to control fertilizer and pesticide use according to local conditions, promote green and sustainable agricultural development and guarantee food safety. To this end, this paper analyzes the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of production-enhancing factor inputs and agro-ecological efficiency in China using panel data of 30 provinces(excluding Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan and Tibet)from 2003 to 2021,and on this basis,a spatial and temporal geographically weighted regression model with agricultural economic output, agricultural pollution index and agroecological efficiency as explanatory variables is constructed. The spatial heterogeneity of the effects of production-enhancing factor inputs on agricultural economic output, agricultural pollution index, and agricultural eco-efficiency was examined with the aid of the GTWR plug-in output regression results. The results show that:(1)the total amount and intensity of yield-enhancing factor inputs show an inverted U-shaped trend during the study period, but grain yields show a continuous increase and a decoupling trend;from the spatial scale, the input intensity of fertilizer and pesticide yield-enhancing factors shows a characteristic of high in the east and low in the west, high in the south and low in the north, and there is a spatial aggregation phenomenon;(2)From 2003 to 2021,the level of agricultural eco-efficiency in China shows an upward trend, with an overall trend of "East > West > Middle",and the distribution of agricultural eco-efficiency has obvious clustering;(3)the input of yieldenhancing factors has both positive and negative effects on agricultural economic output and agricultural pollution index. In general, the economic effect of yield-enhancing factor inputs is greater than the environmental effect;the effects of yield-enhancing factor inputs on agro-ecological efficiency show two states, fertilizer inputs promote agro-ecological efficiency and pesticide inputs inhibit agro-ecological efficiency, and there is spatial heterogeneity in the effects of yield-enhancing factor inputs.
