With the transformation of China’s economy from a rapid growth stage to high-quality development, the construction industry has also gradually carried out fine management from rough development, and safety management is a very important part of it.As a practical management means for construction sites, safety signs are not satisfactory, mainly reflected in the user’s understanding rate is generally low,so how to improve the understanding rate is the most basic and important research direction to improve safety signs to play a warning and guiding role.Human factors are the most active in construction site safety management, and the most important foothold of safety management is also on people,so the research on the effectiveness of safety signs should be started by users themselves.Domestic research on safety signs mostly focuses on the design of the signs themselves, and there are fewer studies specifically for safety signs at construction sites.Based on the theory of human factors engineering, this paper explores the relationship between users’ cognitive processes and cognitive preferences and the effectiveness of safety signs through objective data obtained by eye tracking experiments.Firstly, through reading literature, investigation and empowerment, the factors that have an important impact on the effective perception of safety signs by construction site workers(i.e.users)are screened out. Then, taking the screened influencing factors as independent variables and the four types of safety signs selected according to the research conclusions of hazards at the construction site in this paper as experimental materials, the first generation of eye tracking experiments was carried out based on eye tracking technology, and the effect of influencing factors on user cognition(i.e.understanding rate and eye movement indicators)was analyzed. Finally, with the help of the conclusions obtained by the original eye tracking experiment and the relevant sign design theory, the safety sign is improved and the verification experiment is re-carried out to verify the reliability of the conclusion obtained by the first generation experiment and the practical application effect of the improved design scheme. The research results of this paper can provide reference and suggestions for the improvement design of safety signs at construction sites, and promote their effectiveness,so as to reduce the frequency of safety accidents on construction sites.
