Faced with the increasingly severe global ecological and epidemic crises,John Bellamy Foster,a leading figure in North American ecological Marxism, reflects and criticizes the ecological crisis in developed Western capitalist countries and the epidemic crises caused by it,and criticizes the anti ecological nature of capitalist production methods The use of science and technology,as well as the lack of ecological morality among people, are regarded as the three major causes of the capitalist ecological crisis. We attempt to actively explore the future ideal society from three aspects: economic system, political revolution, and social development concept,in order to solve the problem of capitalist ecological crisis.Based on the perspective of historical materialism,a more comprehensive analysis of Foster’s capitalist ecological crisis theory can not only make an objective and scientific evaluation of its theory, but also provide some enlightenment to China’s ecological civilization construction to a certain extent. This article mainly provides a systematic introduction to Foster’s theory of capitalist ecological crisis and conducts a systematic analysis of its content and contemporary value based on Marxism. In addition to the introduction, this article is mainly divided into the following four parts:The first part mainly introduces the historical background and theoretical sources of Foster’s capitalist ecological crisis theory.Foster’s capitalist ecological crisis theory emerged with the outbreak of global ecological crises, epidemic crises, and the rise and development of ecological movements, and drew inspiration from Marx’s ecological philosophy theory,Frankfurt School’s ecological crisis theory, and other ecological Marxist ecological crisis theory resources of the same period. The second part mainly elaborates on Foster’s theory of capitalist ecological crisis in detail.Foster systematically elaborated on the ecological crisis of capitalist society and the epidemic crisis it caused, pointing out that the anti ecological nature of capitalist production methods, the use of science and technology, and the lack of people’s ecological morality are the causes of the capitalist ecological crisis. He attempted to explore the future ideal society from three aspects: economic system, political revolution, and social development concept,In order to solve the ecological crisis of capitalism. The third part mainly analyzes the theoretical significance and limitations of Forster’s capitalist ecological crisis theory from the perspective of historical materialism.Foster inherited the critical tradition of Marxism and, facing the development of contemporary capitalism, criticized capitalism from the perspective of ecological crisis, which to some extent expanded the dimension of criticizing capitalism. However,Forster deviated from the historical materialism, resulting in his limited criticism of capitalism and a certain one-sided and utopian orientation in his conception of socialism. The fourth part mainly analyzes the significance of Foster’s exploration of the path to solving the ecological crisis of capitalism for the construction of ecological civilization in China.Although Foster’s theory of capitalist ecological crisis has some limitations, its exploration of the path to solving the problem of capitalist ecological crisis has significant implications for China’s ecological civilization construction. The inspiration mainly comes from three aspects: firstly, adhering to the sustainable development strategy and achieving green development; The second is to strengthen the ecological moral construction of the people and achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature; The third is to promote the superiority of the socialist system and continuously strengthen the construction of ecological civilization.
