An Analysis Of Forster’s "Ecological Marxism"

Since the 21 st century,with the development of human civilization,it is still a difficult problem for human beings to coexist with nature in a tacit way.Faced with the increasingly prominent ecological crisis,scholars from all over the world are exploring ways to solve the problem in practice and in theory.The famous American scholar John Bellamy forster is one of them.He formed his ecological marxist theory by studying the contents of marxist theory on ecology and actively exploring the causes of ecological crisis.The analysis and study of forster’s ecological marxist theory can not only deeply understand the ecological view of marxism,but also help to solve the ecological crisis faced by human beings.Forster has two famous works "Marx’s ecology: materialism and nature" and "ecological crisis and capitalism",which are the representative works of his ecological marxism.Based on the profound analysis of these two works,this paper sorts out,interprets and evaluates his ecological marxist thought.The thesis is divided into three parts: the first part introduces forster’s life and academic situation,and systematically summarizes the realistic background and theoretical background of forster’s marxism.The second part is forster’s analysis of Marx’s ecological thought.Based on the study of ecological materialism,forster reinterpreted the theory of "metabolic fracture" and put forward the root cause and solution of ecological crisis.The third part is an analysis of the marxist thought of forster’s ecology.This paper points out the theoretical contribution of forster’s thought to marxist ecological thought,the influence of forster’s thought on the theoretical field of China,and the enlightenment of forster’s thought on the construction of ecological civilization in China.Finally,the limitation of forster’s marxist thought in ecology is analyzed.Forster’s ecological marxism is not a theory in the perfect sense,and there is still an over-emphasis on the position and role of ecological thought in Marx’s theory,and his criticism of capitalism only stays in the theoretical level,but does not provide the implementation of ecological revolution.However,he pointed out a new direction to solve the ecological crisis and provided ideas for China to solve the ecological problems,so as to make the ecological marxist theoretical system more systematic and complete.
