| The traditional Chinese costume pattern system is complex and far-reaching,and is an outward manifestation and materialisation of Chinese ritual culture. The stylistic style of the various patterns is a combination of the wisdom and creativity of the ancient ancestors, revealing the unique language of the Chinese people.During the Qing dynasty, the intermingling of Manchu and Chinese cultures led to an unprecedented growth in the arts and crafts, resulting in a rich volume of embroidery patterns with a contemporary style. One of the patterns that flourished during the Qing dynasty was the lakes and stones pattern, which was influenced by the culture of the period. The study takes the Hushi patterns in the embroidery of the Qing dynasty as its object of study, and examines it in a systematic way by examining the history and objects. The study also examines the origins and development of the Hushi patterns, clarifies their application, summarises the artistic characteristics of the motifs, and discusses the meaning of the Hushi patterns in the embroideries from the perspective of the historical background of the Qing dynasty. The study also explores the current state of application and methods of application of Hushi patterns in modern design products, and proposes targeted protection for products that are in decline. The research shows that:(1)the Hushi patterns was taken from the Taihu Hushi, and during the Tang Dynasty, dominated by the "small but refined" stone appreciation culture, the lake stone was mainly popular as an interesting object of appreciation for the literati and the red gentry. In the Song Dynasty, under the leading effect of the rise of literati painting, the Hushi became a popular material for the creation of paintings, coupled with the appreciation of the way the woof quoted the painting as the base for the production, making the Hushi was used in fabric decoration. In the Qing Dynasty, with the help of the ruler’s advocacy, the idea of "the unity of heaven and man" and the unprecedented development of arts and crafts,Hushi became a popular motif of the era and were widely used in the decoration of fabrics and embroideries.(2)The Hushi patterns in Qing dynasty embroidery has a wide range of patterns to suit the group, and is usually used in combination with other patterns of other attributes to achieve a narrative effect. The Hushi patterns is irregularly shaped in a "Y" pattern, which is in the same direction as the plant pattern in the overall decoration. While enhancing the sense of vibrancy of the decorative carrier,it also adds to the overall elegance of the decoration. At the same time, because of the weaving method of "drawing into the draft",the colour scheme of the Hushi patterns mainly presents warm colours, with moderate saturation and high brightness.(3)After clarifying the artistic characteristics of the Hushi patterns, the historical and iconographic perspectives are used to study and interpret the connotations of the Hushi patterns in relation to historical documents and physical images. It is understood that as a carrier of the people’s sentiments, the pattern conveys the people’s vision of life, family and children, and its strong allegorical and narrative nature is also an alternative heritage of Hushi culture.(4)Summing up the current examples of modern product design on the theme of Hushi,it is found that the products with the most authentic expression of traditional Hushi patterns are non-heritage cultural and creative products, but due to the impact of machine-made products, the development of such products is in a state of decline. In order to improve their development dilemma,it is therefore proposed to protect economic, cultural and social activities.(5)Based on the results of the research on traditional Hushi patterns and the insights gained from the research, the design of innovative designs for Hushi patterns is improved by combining modern trends and the KANO model, and the designs are then applied to clothing design products and home textile products,so as to show the results of theoretical and practical research.Through the theoretical study of the artistic features and cultural implications of the Qing dynasty Hushi patterns, the design is then applied to modern product design practice. It not only provides theoretical support for future research on embroidery patterns and natural attribute motifs, but also serves as a reference point for broadening the ideas of modernising traditional patterns and providing a reference path for the sustainable development of traditional embroidery patterns. |
