| Agricultural insurance provides agricultural risk protection for agricultural producers and operators,and plays an important role in the development of modern agriculture and the stability of farmers’ income.Studies have proven that agricultural insurance can influence farmers’ production behavior and production decisions.The resulting changes in production behaviors such as farmers’ factor inputs and the application of new technologies will inevitably have an impact on the green development of agriculture and agricultural carbon emissions.Therefore,this study will focus on the impact and mechanism of agricultural insurance development on agricultural carbon emissions.Based on the panel data of 31 provinces and cities in China from 2007 to 2020,this study discusses the environmental protection effect of agricultural insurance from a new perspective of agricultural carbon emissions,and empirically analyzes the carbon emission reduction effect of agricultural insurance development and the differences between regions.Firstly,the background and significance of the study are determined,and the previous Chinese and foreign literature is sorted out and comprehensively reviewed.Then,the current situation of agricultural insurance and agricultural carbon emissions is summarized,and the relationship between agricultural insurance and agricultural carbon emissions is analyzed.The subsequent empirical part starts from the perspectives of agricultural insurance density and agricultural insurance scale,and uses the fixed-effect model regression method to study the impact of agricultural insurance on the total amount of agricultural carbon emissions,and the robustness test yields similar conclusions.Finally,based on the empirical results of the previous part,research conclusions are made and relevant policy recommendations are put forward.The results show that,on the whole,the improvement of the development level of agricultural insurance significantly promotes the reduction of total agricultural carbon emissions,on average,for every 1% increase in agricultural insurance coverage density,the total agricultural carbon emissions are reduced by 0.0385%,and the total agricultural carbon emissions are reduced by 1.407% for every 1% increase in the development scale of agricultural insurance.In the heterogeneity analysis,the effect of agricultural insurance on the reduction of total carbon emissions was mainly manifested in the central and western provinces and the main grain producing areas and main sales areas.In the phased return,after 2013,the ecological civilization system was brought to the national level,and the carbon reduction effect of agricultural insurance was more obvious.In view of the research conclusions,the following suggestions are put forward: improve the agricultural insurance system and innovate agricultural insurance products;Formulate agricultural insurance policies according to local areas and promote the balanced development of agricultural insurance;Formulate environmental protection policies and intensify environmental protection. |
