The road transportation industry is a leading industry for the leapfrog development of rural economy, and the ecological environment is the foundation for the mutually beneficial development of rural economy and road transportation industry.Highway transportation is the artery of social and economic blood circulation, which connects the economic entities and improves the circulation efficiency within the economy. However,it will increase the burden on the ecological environment during the construction and operation periods. Therefore, studying the coupling relationship between road transportation, rural economy, and ecological environment can provide effective strategies for the development of rural economy and rural revitalization in Xinjiang, providing reference basis for relevant government departments, and making more reasonable decisions to promote the coordinated development of road transportation, rural economy, and ecological environment. This article integrates the existing theoretical achievements of various countries, integrating theories from coupling, system, ecology, transportation, and other aspects.Using data information from the period of 2011 to 2020,the corresponding coupling evaluation index system is selected from the three levels of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment using coupling mechanism.Based on the establishment of the evaluation index system,a coupling and coordinated dispatch model for Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment is constructed,And using the coupling coordination degree model for coordination evaluation, the grey correlation degree analysis method is used to study the coupling influencing factors of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment. The article selects Xinjiang as a research example, and first analyzes the current situation of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economic development, and ecological environment. Then, based on the coupling coordination degree model, the factor analysis method is used to evaluate the coordination of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment. Finally, analyze the coupling factors among the three systems of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment,in order to better reflect the internal driving force of coordination among the three systems and promote the development of the three systems to be more coordinated. The research conclusion is as follows: The coupling degree, coordination degree, and coupling coordination degree of the three subsystems of Xinjiang’s highway transportation industry, rural economy, and ecological environment showed a fluctuating growth trend from 2011 to 2020.The coordination level experienced a transition from moderate imbalance, near imbalance, primary coordination, barely coordination, and near imbalance, and then fluctuated between barely coordination and primary coordination,However,in 2020,the coupling and coordination will face a near imbalance, which is mainly due to the impact of the COVID-19,resulting in slow economic development. From the perspective of coupled development types,it has undergone a transformation from being dominated by the ecological environment,to being dominated by the highway transportation industry, and then to being dominated by the rural economy. From the perspective of grey correlation of influencing factors, among many influencing factors, the relatively high correlation is the passenger volume and the new production capacity(new roads)of fixed assets investment, the ratio of urban and rural residents’ income to the proportion of the number of employees in the primary industry, forest coverage and the production of solid waste.
