In recent years, high quality and sustainable economic development has become the mainstream trend, for which General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed that economic development should uphold the concept of community with nature and take the path of ecological priority and green low-carbon development.Green innovation has become an important way to promote economic and ecological balance and achieve sustainable and healthy development of society. However, compared with traditional innovation, green innovation requires more knowledge accumulation, more difficult research and development, and higher risks, which makes it more difficult for a single enterprise to conduct independent research,so inter-enterprise organizational cooperation and information exchange and knowledge transfer naturally become the mainstream trend of current enterprise development. As an important channel of communication between enterprises,it is worth studying how social network relationship has an impact on enterprise green innovation.Based on the above background, this paper draws on the research methods and theoretical foundations of domestic and foreign scholars on social networks and green innovation, combines social network theory, constructs independent directors’ network and chain shareholders’ network, establishes an empirical model, and takes A-share listed companies in 10 years from 2011 to 2020 as data samples, uses degree centrality and intermediary centrality as network measurement indicators, and empirically tests the influence of corporate network location on The results are tested for robustness and endogeneity, and the heterogeneity of the relationship is further explored. The results show that:(1)the centrality of enterprises in the network has a positive effect on the green innovation of enterprises.(2)The intermediary centrality of the firm in the network positively influences the level of green innovation of the firm. The positive contribution of both is significant in both the independent director network and the chain shareholder network.(3)After considering the heterogeneity of independent directors’ networks,it is found that the positive effect of independent directors’ network centrality on green innovation is more pronounced in heavy polluting industries compared to light polluting industries.Based on the above findings, this paper puts forward policy recommendations in three aspects: how to optimize the central location of the network, how to give full play to the advantages of existing directors and shareholders and the supporting role of the government,in order to provide a theoretical basis for China’s listed companies to improve the importance of their location in the social network and thus promote the development of corporate green innovation. |
